Well? What amps do you guys like to use for your lead tones in your recordings? Hoping for some Mark, VHT, XTC, etc. :goggly:

Depends on the music style, I guess.

I just use the Orange channel on my 2 Ch. Dual Rectifer, set to Vintage mode. (Has a nice, thick, gooey feel, too.)

The Bogner Ecstasy sounds pretty decent on the red channel for lead, but in general, I feel like the amp is "too refined" sounding, and like it's lacking highs. I think this could depend on the cabinet you use it with. Great for rock stuff, though.

Mark IV on Channel 3 is pretty decent, too. I"m not real crazy about the other channels on the MkIV. (I've been itchin' to try an old MkIII again. I used to like those quite well.)

Haven't had much experience with VHT, though.

5150 Rhythm channel can be amazing for leads (surprisingly). It's a bit thicker than the lead channel. I love EL34 based amps for leads as well.

I too like the orange channel set to vintage on my recto. Still has cut but rounds eveything up nicely where as the red can be a bit harsh for leads ESP on the bridge pickup. Lately I've been favouring the mark IIc+ and mark IV for leads. Has a lot of warmth and the gain is crisp and full without the fizz. The mark I is great for bluesy/jazz soloing where a fat low-med gain tone is required. I've also had success recording leads with a Mesa and jcm2000 at the same time. The Marshall helped to
round out the sound quite a bit as I was going for a more fluid sound then I was able to pull out f the recto alone. Would never use one live or anywhere else lol

Joe Satriani sounded fucking tits when I saw him live using the JSX head. Absolutely stomped on Vai's tone that night (it was a G3 concert)

The JSX is def a soloers amp. I love chunky rythm, but can't get the balance of rythm/solo right on the 5150's for me. Whereas the JSX sings wherever its put! imo of course...

While I'm here, the Bugera 333XL is pretty sick.
Basically a JSX copy, but it has it's own flavor to it. Sounds good for anything really

I'm surprised by the number of 5150s and Rectos! 5150 is a bit rough-sounding for leads and I've never really seen Rectos as much of lead amps.
