Early Isis is probably sludge, but I think the best categorization for both is post-metal. That certainly seems to be the consensus on the Isis forum anyway...Can't say that I disagree.

That would be an alright term I guess. In the sense that they are essentially heavy post-rock. Either way they just obviously aren't a doom band.

that is an excellent way to think of them, becuase i always see them as being post rock + metal, so post-metal is very applicable in this sense
