Fear Factory - Archetype = redemption!

Fear Factory catches a lot of shit for no reason. I still think Obsolete is their finest hour. Demanufacture is great, but there is too much filler in the middle of the album. Digimortal isn't as bad as people want to believe, and as much as the anti-trend whores claim, it is not nu-metal. That's not to say a lot of it isn't shit. But I do think the first six songs and the last song are quite good.

To be honest, i think Soul of a New Machine is a weak effort, certainly not on par with Demanufacture and Obsolete.

Haven't heard the new one. But my hopes are high since they got rid of the fat fuck porn aficianado.

Agreed! Digimortal gets more flak than it deserves. I mean, listen to Hurt Conveyor or Damaged, or Byte Block. The good songs on that album far outweigh the bad ones, it's just that the bad ones are so unforgivable.

And yeah, I don't understand people's love of SOANM. It's just weak wannabe death metal with awful vocals.

Exactly. As usual, people entirely focus on the bad, while totally ignoring the good. I think the title track, Dark Bodies, and song #11 (?) are very strong songs.

But instead of listening to the good ones, they choose to complain about Back Da Fuck Up, which is quite shit, but move on already.

That's exactly what it is. But of course the people who found FF during the Obsolete/Digimortal days must claim to love the old stuff, even if it is generic crap.

Bite the Hand that Bleeds is quite possibly the worst song they've ever written though. (yes, even worse than Back the Fuck Up, at least that was heavyish in a sense)

Woah, its like you read my mind! Altohugh i have to say that SoANM had two good songs, "Martyr" and "Scapegoat".

I've been listening to it for a couple of days, and I think I like Digimortal a bit better. Archetype is just too long and drawn out, hell, the 2nd half of the album is utterly forgettable and very boring. My favorite tracks are Cyberwaste (2) and Archetype (5).

The main reason I like Archetype better than Digimortal is the 'epic' feel/atmosphere. That was the only major problem with Digimortal; a lot of its sobgs kicked ass and all, but there's nothing epic or grand about it. The songs are short and punishing, but don't really go anywhere. Archetype however has a feel more akin to Demanufacture or Obsolete. It feels like it has a purpose and it makes FF feel epic again.

I'm yet to hear Archetype but i have recenlty downloaded a track off it ('Drones' i think) and from that song i don't really think it doesn't really tops Demanufacture nor Obsolete but i would say it's defiantly better than some of the tracks of 'Digimortal'

I liked SoaNM. I'd rather hear Bell's vocals than Barnes or Tardy....

I'm practically drooling waiting for Archetype.

Woah ... this CD kicks serious ass. A few tracks could be better but for the most part in my opinion it's headbangin' heaven. "Corporate Cloning" is by far the best track on the disc. Might even be there best CD yet. Can't wait to see them play live in April. \m/
