Thank you for doing that, was very kind and generous of you!
It was the right thing to do. I served my country for 22 years, and i still have a big soft spot in my heart for all the women and men today who serve, and if i can do anything to help them i will. So the $408 r/t is worth it.

WOOOOHOOOO we are all at the Residence INN PARTY TIME!!!!!!!:hotjump:
So for all of you at the Residence Inn i will be the SCOOP and CARRY for the FEST.. you get drunk and can't make it back then if you want i will SCOOP yoou off the floor, sidewalk, whatever, and CARRY you back to the hotel. Just kidding.

FINALLY! I've been needing that service at PP for YEARS! :p

John that's really admirable that you gave those flight points to the families of wounded soldiers! It's equally as cool that someone thought up that program! I wish I had miles to contribute!

I shouldn't have given up all my American Airline frequent flier miles, but it went to a good cause(flying families of wounded AMERICAN service members to be with their HERO).
Dude, you fuckin' rock! If I meet you at this year's pp beer is on me!:worship:

Thank You for your service, as well!:headbang:

The Residence is up the hill from Earthlink. I have no idea if it's nicer than the Hampton (never been there), but the Residence has a decent breakfast, a kickass restaurant next door (Madison Grill - THEY HAVE GUINNESS!) and a Subway half a block away.

And here's one of many Dave's Tips For Surviving ProgPower: If you're staying at the RI, head over to Subway before the show and get a sub, then put it in the fridge in your room. That way, whenever you stumble back to your room at whatever ungodly hour, you'll have something to eat and won't have to search around for an open food place, which is pretty damn rare in that part of Atlanta that time of night.

Here's a tip of mine: Don't stumble back from the Granada to the Residence Inn alone at 4AM - you may be forced to "hire" a scary homeless guy who claims he'll be your bodyguard during the walk back

...Sept 15-16.

The Atlanta hotel industry has experienced a 15% increase in room costs over the past two years, including 2006) as the tourism industry has rebounded post 9/11. If you find a good deal, I advise you to nail down your hotel rooms early.

Glenn H.

P.S. Now you know the reason for the small ticket price increase this year. When you pay for 50+ rooms over 3 days, it *adds* up.

I just called the Granada to book my rooms and they're almost full!:yell:

Turns out that the "homeless bodyguard" was Tom Englund, undercovered...:tickled:

Go anyway!!! My wedding anniversary is Sept. 14 and I go every year...w/o him. Last year was our 20th and he still didn't mind. And THAT'S why we've been married so long. :tickled: (BTW, your brother-in-law sounds like a jerk.)

I believe that *I* am. Without the husband. :-/ He's upset. I don't know if my brother in law is a jerk or just someone who Doesn't Get It. I think it's more the latter than the former. Apparently he was QUITE surprised that I'm not going to the wedding.

*sigh*

Sounds like your husband's brother is a dick...or a non-metal fan.

According to your comments, he went out of his way to schedule his wedding on the biggest North American Metal weekend of the year...

Whether intentional or not...just plain sucks...especially when he had a year notice...sounds like the typical kitty-whipped symdrome...

Yeah...that marriage is destined to last...

Rock on!

He's definitely a non-metal fan. Of course, a lot of people when they get into wedding mode forget that the world does not revolve around their wedding. ;) That being said, they started dating less than a month after J and I got married, so they'll have been dating six years before they finally get hitched. It's due. It's just really really really shitty timing.

I wrote elsewhere that ProgPower is the one event we clear our social calendar for. My husband's brother's wedding is the one social event that can't be cleared.

(I am also trying to convince the husband that he should come down for Wednesday and Thursday - while not the show, he might as well see the friends!)

(I am also trying to convince the husband that he should come down for Wednesday and Thursday - while not the show, he might as well see the friends!)

...plus, he would get to see all the crappy singers at the karaoke party, as well as the good ones at the pre-party... :)

that just sucks. is it possible that ProgPower weekend was the only good weekend where "everyone else" could make the wedding, and they were just trying to appease the greatest number of people?

My boyfriend's roomie is getting married the weekend after PP. I consider them lucky to not have chosen the week before. Though considering they just got engaged, I kind of question this wedding happening 8 months later. Churches and what not are all a pain to book and I know for sure they will be having a church wedding.
Only thing this causes to happen is my boyfriend likely not attending because they'll plan the bachelor's party the weekend before.

I got a room at the Hampton for $89 bucks a night. Must be the government rate hooking me up.

Any decent golfers going to be in town? Last year Nick van Dyk and I played a few rounds and had a good time. It would be nice to get a foursome (on the golf course!) together this year.

Oh, and being in Alaska, I am all for a Prog Power in the winter like it was back in the day. Getting out of the land of the four-hour sunlight during November would rule. We're at 9 degrees at the present (high for the day, and it's 11:15pm) and I bet that 39 down in Atlanta right now would feel downright balmy.

Next to the Granada, it's also the second-closest hotel to Earthlink Live. I stayed there for the first time last year (after we finally got to stay there, and not 3 miles north), and was pleasantly surprised by the shortness of the walk. The Fairfield, may it rest in peace, was a bit further away.

Brilliant advice, there.

Well, not if you hang out with someone who knows the area and has a vehicle. Preferably a larger one than mine. :)

There are several 24-hour choices within an easy drive -- City Cafe Chinese Buddha, R. Thomas, Steak and Shake, Waffle House, City Cafe again (the better location is now north of the venue)....and there's one 24-hour choice (Chinese Buddha) within walking distance if you're at one of the hotels on 14th Street.

I should rent a van during this shindig. :D

And I thought that I was the only Prog Power attendee that loved Guinness!!! I've had it at the Madison Grill. It's not as good as it is served at some of the pubs in Fort Lauderdale though. I wish that they sold that at Earthlink!!! :headbang:

Dude! I need to get directions to those places, when at PVII! In the past, Burke, Greykiller and I have only found a couple of places open at that time of night!

It seems like a lot of us are going to be staying, and have stayed, at the Residence Inn. Anyone having a room party? We can't let the Granada have all the fun!
