First black metal band ever?

Wicked Child: I know , it was an inside joke (with me and myself perhaps) about blackmetallers
Greeno: I like few black metal bands, generally i think that the whole BM scene (especially after mid 90s) is a big joke.
I think that there were definetally darker bands bands than Sabbath (for example Coven - they were older too). Even Atomic Rooster were very DARK.
And about the Sabbath lyrics, there is a HUGE difference between : TALKING about God or Satan , and PRAISING/BASHING God or Satan. Sabbath did mainly the first thing, and when they wanted to praise something, it wasnt Satan for sure .

I gotcha. I like some early black metal, like Hellhammer, Bathory, and such. I love the death/black of Dissection and some Darkthrone, but other than that, not too into it.

Dark/Black Metal, like Greeno has said, the late 80's -Present is really goofy.
I think they try to hard to go over the top & they come off visually about as serious as Marilyn Manson. Overall, to me the musicianship leaves a lot to be desired.
That's just my take on the topic.

about how satan rules.
By Biblical definition Satan does not rule shit he is subordinate to God (JOB). But again since I don't believe in either more than as mythological figures I wouldn't care less.

As for Aromic Rooster, right on the bullseye. We were just talking about their second album in a chat, I have to hear it indeed.

I'm going to order Venom first three albums. But that besides Goddess Of Desire and one Impaled Nazarene album I have is the MOST I will ever, ever deal with BM. Not offense IOTS but I'm really allergic to what is call today Black, and I can't stand corpsepaint guys or screechers. To each his own like Bryant says ;)

believe me, i am more allergic to the dummy burger/cradle of shit/and more faggy corpsepainted circus freaks thing. I dont understand where i made clear that i listen to black metal since the black metal bands i like much are maybe 3-4.
and the "about how satan rules" was sarcastic (about black metallers again).

Living Colour  (old joke I know).

It can be 'Black Sabbath', 'N.I.B.' or 'War Pigs'. It can be Witchfynde, it can be Venom, it can be Possesed. But considering how Black Metal looks today, Hellhammer most probably (more in spirit than musically).

In any case I won't worry about the first, I'm waiting for the last one :flame:

MUAAAHAHAHAHA!
Yep many people not only consider Black Sabbath the originators of meta, but of "black metal" as well. Blue Oyster Cult had the lyrics on some songs, but they never had that "doomy" sound.

Sure especially in 'Black Sabbath' , 'N.I.B' , 'War Pigs', 'Iron Man' , 'Lord of This World', 'Heaven And Hell' , 'Die Young', 'Mob Rules' , ' Headless Cross' , ' Kill In The Spirit World', 'The Eternal Idol', 'Disturbing The Priest'.
Though Ronnie "borrowed" that idea from Sabbath, he took it a step farther early in his Dio career. Ronnie phrased his lyrics in such a way that you could decippher as positive or negative. And the weirdest thing is, Ronnie says he gets 90% of his inspiration and lyrics from sporting events. He is supposedly a sports fanatic, but I don't see the similarities between The Mets winning and "The Last in Line." : /

none of these songs can be considered "dark" or "satanic" .. "Black Sabbath" says that oh please god help me thing, its just a fictional situation, more like storytelling .. "N.I.B." "War Pigs" is one of their "light" songs (unless you consider "satan's laughing spreads his wings" evil) "Iron Man" is just a story "Heaven And Hell" talks about the duality of all things and about not talking anything for granted and "Headless Cross" justs tells a story too. While the positive , "of light", and sometimes even "christian" lyrics are more and much more clear. Generally there was more Sabbath praying to God , than Sabbath talking about how satan rules.
I agree 100% with that, what made Black Sabbath "evil" was the mood of their songs much more than their lyrics.
The satanic thing was only a marketing tool... just like in Venom ;)
