For surgical cuts, what EQs are you using?

On drums I LOVE Metric Halo Channel-Strip, and on guitars and bass, I tend to use sonnox eq. I'd probably use it more if they ever add the fucking handles to the eq point in the RTAS version

If you need more then 10 bands on a parametric there is something wrong with your micing technique and its a shit tone to begin with. I have NEVER had to use more then 4 or 5 on any given signal. That being said Waves Q10 here as well.

Absolutely. Funny too. But it's great to have those extra channels to play around with, even if you don't end up using them.

If the tone needs more than 10 bands of EQ then it needs more than 10 bands of EQ. End of story. To hell with the "you should only need to do this little" mindset, it'll get you nowhere unless you only receive utterly amazing tracks to work with. Five bands will pretty much give you a HPF, LPF, high mid band and a low mid band, and to be honest, I rarely stumble upon a guitar tone that doesn't need anything more.

Concentrate on listening, do what you have to do, and don't over think it.

+1 to ReaEQ for cuts. Unlimited number of bands, ridiculously high Q (curgical indeed) and you can run hundreds of them before you CPU starts feeling anything.
