For those that get "tired" as the night goes on..

Disagree.

I attribute the Rage fiasco to the "Evergrey effect." They took all the energy and half the crowd when they announced an impromptu signing session immediately after their set (as they didn't arrive until right before the show that year).

As for the life perspective, give Jorn a bit of credit. His solo material is going to be the focus with a mix of some obvious choices and some not. He isn't going to play a song from every single cd he has been on. It's just not possible.

If he sings Hellfire, I'll eat my shoe. I love that song.

Anyone who would "meet" a band and miss the American debut of an act is certifiably crazy, imo. Ignorance is certainly not missing in the crowd, even one as aware as the ProgPower crowd.

actually, that's the big draw-back of the signing sessions not being early in the day while we wait in line; you end up missing most of a set just to get autographs. Bad idea, I think.

Here's hoping for a longshot that Tore Ostby shows up to jam on a couple of tracks. I don't know what caused Ark to split in the first place, so it may be way out of the question.

Tired? True metal fans never get tired!!! :)

I find the hard part is getting through the set changes . . . especially that last one. Once the music starts, I don't feel tired anymore.

Exception - Pain of Salvation. They knocked me out at PPIII.

Wow lol if thats true then your fucking hardcore, i feel asleep during Angra last year for God's sake lol.
Wow, too bad. I will admit to getting dopey during Rage, and I've fallen asleep to Dream Theater.....twice. (guess I just don't "get" it.)

Since we are being open and honest....I will admit to a brief period of shut eye during Ed Guy.

In my defense....it was the only band I sat down for...and seeing that they were on last...

AHAHA!! I love how everyone is admitting to falling asleep during bands. That is so cute. I may be guilty of that a few years ago too  but I've definitely made up for it.

This year is going to be amazing.

1. I couldnt care less about Rage, and I doubt I'm alone. I do love Evergrey, so there's your answer.

2. The bands seem to go out of their way to be accesible throughout the entire fest, so waiting in line for a M&G is not always necessary. If I had to identify a problem, I would point to the fact that many in the crowd dont know who the band members are unless they're sitting behind a table signing autographs. Bottom line, if you want autographs and pics and can't get them, then you are doing something wrong. It's not the bands' fault and not the scheduling of the M&G sessions.

You may want to pace yourself a bit better this year. This is the one year where you will kick yourself in the ass if you miss the entire headline performance. I've seen the setlists and you have no idea how pumped I truly am. These are once in a lifetime sets that the world will envy once they hear what you saw.

Jorn's setlist is :worship: :headbang: :kickass: o_O :OMG:

Well Nugs... I have to agree with your statement here... and also reinforce my independent conclusion that people who can't handle rocking it out until 2am are clearly pussies... no matter how old or how young they are.

As far as Jorn and this setlist goes... I'll pick up another Jorn solo album, but I wasn't all that thrilled with The Duke. The lyrics are freakin' awful... and there was only one or two songs I really enjoyed. I really love "Out to Every Nation" on your website though... that song just rules! But, ultimately takes more than great singing a one or two hit songs to win me over. That all said, I'd rather see Jorn over Nevermore (even though I like Nevermore more) for personal reasons... as well as the fact that a.) I'd never get to see Jorn otherwise and b.) I've seen Nevermore 4 times.

That all said, I still think Vision Divine should be headlining! Mark my words, Nugs, Vision Divine will be biggest underestimation in your history of booking bands.... just a gut feeling based on the Thorsen factor!

+1

No knock on Rage; I simply wasn't familiar with them, being more of a prog-metal dude than power-.

But the problem THAT year with Evergrey -- correct me if I'm wrong, Glenn -- is that due to their itinerary, they weren't around all weekend, so their numerous fans didn't have as much chance to meet them casually. M&G announcement was made; not familiar with the headliner (a rarity for me at PP, but there it was); off to Vinyl I went. No-brainer.

People missed RAGE to go to an Evergrey Meet and Greet?

what ungrateful bastards!!!!!

While this isn't the reason I missed Rage, I kick myself all the time for leaving during their set.

I had driven 16 hours to get to Atlanta late Thursday night, met up with Curufin for the first time, got aquainted that night, slept for around 3 hours, spent night 1 on my feet, which was an endurance test at the time, partied that night, got 2 hours of sleep, then went back and stood for much of night 2 as well. We had planned on leaving right after Rages set for the 16 hour drive home, but we were so fucking beat we just got fustrated at the situation (we had been merch shopping that 2nd day too and holding a bag of shit and a hulking camera was not pleasent.) and left.

It really sucks in retrospect, because while I was completely unfamiliar with Rage, I was LOVING their set. I really wish that wouldn't have been my first Progpower, because I would've managed my time out a little better. Rage is the best Progpower band I didn't get to see, I'm sure of it. I understand there are bitter feelings with Rage due to the crowd filing out, but I really hope they make a return appearance. I don't know how out of the question that is.

Irreguardless, back on topic: I'm not overly familiar with Jorn's work outside of Masterplan, and I'm not too familiar with anything outside of thier first release. I have Aeronautics, but .. it never really grabbed me. I'm mainly going to be drawn into his set based on the appearances he's got lined up, specifically Mikkel from Mercenary, and whatever other surprises there are.

That said, I am also not entirely familiar with Evergrey's catalog either, being that they haven't clicked with me until very recently (even after I was FLOORED by their Progpower 4 performance). I now own and absolutely LOVE the album "Recreation Day", and have heard and thougherally enjoy "The Inner Circle" and "In Search of Truth". As time draws closer to the festival, I will make myself more familiar with these albums, but priority will be given to learning Mercenary's new effort, as well as a renewed vigor for 11 dreams. I love singing along at concerts, and this year I'll be able to do that for Savage Circus, Mercenary, and some Evergrey. Thats more bands than the past 2 years combined. :D

Let the honesty continue: There was latina porn surfing on cellphones during Pain of Salvation's set at progpower 5 out of boredom. In the front row no less. It was a fantastic idea.

Damn they sucked. :p

I find that particularly astounding, considering that Evergrey is one of the biggest "partying" bands of the fest whenever they're there; not only are they constantly mixing with the crowd, but they have been known to show up to ProgPower when they're not even playing that year. It seems like people have infinite opportunities to meet them; it's baffling to me that so many people would wait for an "official" meet & greet.
