They are now. Of course trends come and go, but hard rock and metal are always huge here. I would say for the last ten or fifteen years it's been all about metal. Hell, the first and only time Finland won that Eurovision thing, it was with Lordi. No, I'm not saying they're metal or any good, just stating the facts.
