Yeah, actually it's a very likely reason too, but the facts remain: Immortal haven't really had any lyrical themes that fit in with the ideology of black metal per general definition since the first album, "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism" so...

Precisely, you get it. Some bands (Nokturnal Mortum, Astrofaes, whatever) call themselves things like "pagan black metal" or "national socialistic black metal" to differentiate, which is alright I guess; it states that the music is derived from black metal, but that the lyrics have other themes.

So if you listen to a song that has influences from all the classics (Mayhem, Darkthrone etc) and you like it very much, and you say "HOLY FUCK THIS SHIT RULES" you wait until you read the lyrics to say "HOLY FUCK THIS SHIT RULES - AWESOME BLACK METAL"?

Actually, I just came to realize, black metal (music + imagery) did not evolve later from King Diamond....because Mercyful Fate WAS already Black Metal!!!!!
