The old man has taken a liking to the game too. So fucking painful watching him try to play though. He's really not a gamer, nor much of a civic planner apparently... I've literally bit my fist a few times.

Actually pretty tough, many enemies are HP sponges, if you try to facetank everything you'll get punished, if you only main one party member you'll get punished, they really did a decent job at limiting any cheese possibilities.

i bought it today. i'm really excited and also really pessimistic, i didn't like the demo much as it felt generically amped up in exactly the way you'd expect from this misguided notion of turning FF7 into an 'action game', but to be fair the opening mission was always a bit like that. i'm definitely gonna go with classic mode as i think that'll be closer to the original experience. i'll know pretty quickly if i'm gonna embrace this or not because i adore the next bit after the demo, the trudge through the slums and introduction to tifa etc, if they fuck that stuff up i'll be tuning out pretty fast.

A friend of mine said they fleshed out the characters quite a lot, like Biggs, Wedge and Jessie. I think I am going to have to get it. However, unlike most, Midgar is one of my least favourite parts of the original 7. It has some cool parts of course, but I almost never look forward to doing it. Really picks up with the Kalm cut-scene for me,

Way more character investment in Biggs, Wedge and Jessie for sure. For people who haven't played the original game, this almost seems sadistic lmao.

I watched some gameplay footage of the Midgar part recently and I love that they got fucking Badger from Breaking Bad to voice Wedge.

I played Final Fantasy 7 up to the end of the first main city with the freeway shootout, sat through what seemed like an hour of cinematic shit, dicked around in a forest for 20 minutes, and quit when I realized I was only like 20% deep into the game. Don't know how anyone has the patience to sit through most JRPGs, the most tedious shit.

they actually altered the original ff7? weird, is that the first game to be re-made and altered?

it's hugely different yeah. much more fleshed out, has voice acting, 360 degree camera, live battles as opposed to turn-based, fully orchestral versions of the music, etc. pretty ambitious project, i just hope the magic of the original wasn't lost in translation. i've got to where the demo ended last night and then it was installing for a billion hours so i haven't got any further yet.
