I've been playing Final Fantasy XII lately. It's really fun so far. It's not too big on character development, and the story is more about an international struggle than saving the world (so far). The new battle system takes a while to get used to. It's a lot more fast paced and demanding.

I've invested about 13 hours of playtime into FFXII, and so far it has failed to capture me in the way the FF games of yore once did (and are still currently doing).

I recently re-purchased a lot of my old favorite RPGs (FFVII, FFVII, FFIX, FFX, Chrono Cross, and FF Chronicles) and am going to expand out to other PS1 RPG classics. Any recommendations? I've got FF Anthology and Xenogears on my list, but they're probably going to be a bitch to find.

I was duly impressed by the new generation graphics when I tried them out, but the lineup of games is thoroughly uninteresting. Sure, you've got to start out with all the easily-accessible games to garner interest, but damn, I really hope the graphics aren't the only reason to play for long. I hope they re-release FFVII. :kickass:

I would recommend playing XII up until you get a full party. It's a little dull when Vaan is just wandering through the desert killing wolves by himself. It's definitely a game driven more by gameplay than by story. Once you have three guys it's more fun to go around hunting baddies. I'm about 30 hours in. I'm not as far as I should be because I'm sort of a nut about leveling up. I find it really relaxing to just sit and fight easy random battles for a few hours. Some of the items early in the game cost a lot of gil, so it's worthwhile.

Xenogears should not be that hard to find. A local used game store has two copies on the shelf, for $45 I think. That's right around the original retail. I borrowed the game once and I didn't think it was that good. I didn't like the combat system.

I haven't really played any Final Fantasy game in-depth yet, save for some fooling around with one of the installments on the PC. In, general, which FF title(on PS2) is considered to be the most accomplished? I've been craving for a good RPG on the Playstation 2 lately. Also has anyone played Persona 3? I've heard it's pretty neat.

Well, the best is FFVI which you can get on the Final Fantasy Chronicles (or was it anthology, one of the two) for the PS, however as far as PS2 generation goes get FF12, far better than that piece of shit that was X, and FAR better than that abortion of a game X-2.

I played Persona 2 which rules, and I want to get 3 :o

I've played FF I, II, III, IV, VI, VII, and XII.

VI and VII were great. IV was the worst of the ones I played. Bad linear story, and boring characters. III for NES was actually really good. I was able to play a translated ROM a few years ago.

Chrono Trigger was better than VI though.

I'm enjoying XII. It's a pretty big departure from any other game in the series.

Dude, you haven't played VIII or IX? In my opinion, those two were the peak of the Final Fantasy series in their overall fun factor and cohesiveness (VII was excellent, but the story was a bit disjointed). IX has amazing graphics for its time, too.

Chrono Trigger was better than VI though.

You should try Chrono Cross. It's not quite as focused as Trigger, but the gameplay is awesome and the graphics are vibrant. It also has a legion of different characters to choose from at different points in the game that can affect the path the game takes (not too drastically, though). It's a very satisfying experience.

True; once I was able to master the battle system (which had me confused at first), it became much more entrancing.

I played Chrono Cross for a while but never got through it. I thought the battle system was way too clunky.

X looked pretty good, but the main guy is extremely gay, and that water polo game looked really stupid too.

Hey, do you still have the ROM? I had a version of that game, and gave it to a friend to play, and he said that the English translation ended after a while. Maybe I had an earlier/shittier version.

Crysis looks really good. Yes, it has recieved alot of hype but when you consider the people that made it are also those behind Far Cry I find it hard to believe it won't live up to expectations. I've watched numerous trailers and talks by the developers and it does look like a completely killer game. The graphics are on a level with nothing I've seen before and the features of it look great fun, as does the multi-player and level designer.

I need to try Enemy Territory : Quake War's as I did love Enemy Territory and I've heard that its quite similar to Bf2 which is another game I enjoy, so I gotta check that out. Also, Team Fortress 2 looks pretty fun.

Too many games to pre-order. :|

I liked the way you dropped the name Far Cry when you mentioned Crysis. It will land up the same way, over-hyped, a good game, but it wont live up to everyones expectations. I am sure the graphics will but it will become another Far Cry or Pariah, a very good game, but not the next F.E.A.R.
