Gamers Thread

I started Mass Effect yesterday. Played for a good 3 hours or so. The introduction didn't grab me as much as I was hoping (probably because the devs revealed the opening planet sequence long ago, bastards). The combat system is taking me awhile to get used to as it lies somewhere in between a straight Gears of War style shooter and a tactical RPG battle system similar to KOTOR. The difference being that you cannot control your AI squad mates directly (though some orders are available to issued through the d-pad.

I heard it improves once you get a hang of it so hopefully that is the case.

I meant this week as in "sometime in the past week" not "today". But yes, looks like it was indeed exactly a week ago.

And they are building it on the Tomb Raider: Legend engine. I haven't played that game so I have no idea if that is a good or a bad thing.

I've only played the demo of Legend, but it looks pretty nice.

The people that made Deus X are the same people that made that new Area 51 game right? Well, hopefully the new Deus X won't suffer the same fate.

That is Harvey Smith yeah, he was the lead designer on Deus Ex 2 and co-creator of the original Deus Ex together with Warren Spector. Many people pretty much blame him for Deus Ex 2 sucking as much as it did (I don't know if that is justified but he seems to be taking the brunt of the blame). Funny thing is that he actually got fired from Midway just a few days ago after publicly complaining about Area 51 and its development cycle.

He pretty much committed career suicide basically. I very much doubt studios are going to be lining up to hire him after this.

I agree with this. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark was fun and all, but they haven't stood the test of time at all, nowdays they are pretty boring accually. Mario Kart and especially Super Smash Bros still kicks major ass though.

Yeah, most n64 shooting games get old.

Oh, both BattleTanx games were fun also.

im a nerd... i play star wars galaxies.

Me too. Awesomeness.

I also play the Battlefront games. In fact I play most Star Wars games actually.

Battlefront kicked so much fucking ass. I played it all the time with my friends.

So I am about 10 hours into Mass Effect and the game has really impressed me. The amount of side quests/exploration seems to be quite staggering and rewarding. I have barely touched the main quest but it is really getting interesting as well.

It took me awhile to grapple with and learn both the combat system and the inventory (it is still a bit too disorganized though) but now that I have it pretty much down, I am really loving it.

Highly recommended to fans of BioWare's other RPGs and WRPG fans in general.

I played Goldeneye for the first time in a while two days ago, it was fun, but it got boring fast.

And we just played Super Smash Bros and Chrono Cross today in school, twas fun

While I wait for Super Smash Bros Brawl and No More Heroes to come out I think I'm going to try and make some spare cash and pick up some of the following games: Persona 2*, Persona 3, Valkyrie Profile*, Valkyrie Profile 2, Star Ocean: The Second Story* & Radiata Stories.

*if i can find them at a decent price

:D

I finally got WoW and TBC about a month ago and have been spending about all of my free time on it :(

I don't even have one high level character because I made so many. My highest level character is level 23.

Dude, save yourself and stop now. I have not been able to play for 2 weeks now and I'm finding myself going insane.

I thankfully got a working ROM of Valkyrie Profile which has saved my soul for the time being but shit ._.
