Gamers Thread

Also, are there games in which missteps don't kill you? I'm pretty sure the "enemy gets point when you accidentally kill yourself" rule applies to, well, every game ever. There are no games that reward stupidity really.

How about instead of giving my enemy a point he didn't deserve because he hit me once in one area and I accidentally ate carpet 200 bajillion feet away from him ten minutes later the game developers could have, like, you know... just given me a point in self destruction? Granted, self destruction points are still earned in the game, but if you are touched just once and you fuck up on your own when you are minding your own business and some tardshit gets points for it? Well... that's just gay.

Frankly I just wish it had more buttons, or at least incorporated the wii remote in some special way.

I played on Twilight Princess on Wii for a bit today. That is a really boring game. The art direction was just bland and drab. The jumping mechanic and some of the controls are really dated at this point. The stupid metal boots slow you to about two steps per second, so certain points in the dungeon crawl take way too long. I've never been a huge Zelda fan, but I at least liked OoT and LTTP enough to put a lot of hours in. I put in about three hours in TP, and I have no interest in picking it up again.

I can't even play The Phantom Hourglass. I played it for about 20 minutes before going "...yeah this is just going to be the typical Zelda game isn't it." The whole series needs a makeover now...it's just ALWAYS the same damn thing.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Zelda is probably the most unbroke series out there aside from Metroid.

Btw, anyone who thinks that the Super Smash Bros series is a button masher one is a fucking idiot. That is like saying that just because you can run through Unreal Tournament with all guns blazing and kill a few noobs you're good at it, because in the end once you play someone like f4tal1ty you'll realize it wasn't so easy as you previously thought.

I haven't played brawl but as melee and the original both were button mashing games in it's core It is probably a button mashing game if it more like that then its prequals. Comparing it to Tekken is a big insult to Tekken imo as it is one of the least Button mashing fighting games out there.
Not saying that's a bad thing (I love both the original and Melee and probably will love Brawl too if I ever play it). SSB obv has lots of other elements which makes it suitable for button mashing as it would be too complicated if it had lots of advanced moves in it. But saying the accual fighting is advanced is just lying imo. :)

BTW, is Roy still there? He was my favourite in Melee. Ranged attacks are for pussies. ;)

The Smash Bros series is fairly advanced for a fighter. What counts in it though is timing and precision and not so much the complexity of the moves in and of themselves. So in this way it is very much similar to any other quality fighting game.

Edit: Roy didn't make it into Brawl. However their is a Roy-like character called Ike, but his moveset is more differentiated from Marth's than Roy's was (less of a clone). I also don't have Brawl yet, nor will I probably get it for awhile (I don't have a Wii) but I have been following much of the coverage on it.

Ya, Ike is sorta the new Roy. But he's so fucking slow

 It's based on Warcraft lore and you don't extend the story line at all. I want a story line to progress through.
i.e. My favorite games are Final Fantasy.

So why don't you just shut the fuck up and quit being an asshole?

Because he is right. It is based upon Warcraft lore and way to fucking go dumbass, it does have a fucking storyline.

Anyways, Ike being slow isn't an issue really. Slow characters doesn't mean shit in Brawl unlike in Melee. He is really good and the sheer power of his attacks makes him so worth it.

eh. I was using Dedede once and that guy is seriously way to slow.

Lol and WoW is not a user friendly mmrpg because most people haven't killed Kel'Thusad and Mega Man 2 is a really hard platform game because most peolple can't finish it in 30min without dying once? With this logic no game whatsoever can be called button masher. You know, there are different levels, even in hell. ;) Ofcourse you can still be good at it noone has said anything against that. Still, it is much more simple then for example Tekken that was brought up earlier and it is alot easier to get decent at it. If YOU can't see this you're the fucking idiot imo.

WoW is easily the most noob-friendly MMO, that's why it excels so well.

And Vilden, SS being a button smasher? I honestly don't think you know what you're talking about. It's all about timing, if your just c-stick spamming in every direction you're not going to win(unless ur marth in melee with his 3mile long sword)

Yes, but all fighting games involes timing, and timing + 3 buttons doesn't make it an advanced fighting game especially when it isn't really more about timing then other fighting games (not less either though). It isn't really a full blown button smasher that I agree on, but it definitly has tendences of it imo.
