Gaming Thread

Stormo, weigh in here - you're about the only one here who's not biased in any argument.

Ok, maybe I really am just retarded, but you sarcastically said "Really?" and then posted an old photo of WoW and then a photo of TESO with the graphics turned way down to illustrate your point. Am I wrong? Seriously, I want to know because that's how I understood it.

Then at the very bottom, you did a 180 and said "it's really just the geometry (and overall topography). The textures and lighting are totally different." Again, maybe I'm just retarded, but that sounds like you disagreeing with me at first and then saying, "I said it looks like WoW at the top of this post, but now at the bottom I'm going to reverse my point and admit that it doesn't look like WoW, that only the geometry with the graphics turned way down looks like WoW." Well shit, every MMO looks like WoW when you purposely make the graphics shit. How am I supposed to respond to this? At the top of the post you disagree but at the bottom you agree. What?

And for some reason I'm an asshole for not following your spastic reasoning, while Lynn says some remark about "welcome to life with DW". He's always been a dick anyway, so no loss there. But again, I'm the asshole for pointing out your flawed logic. Whatever. You constantly debate with me...it's just how you are and how I am as well...so forgive me for taking it the wrong way, but it seemed like you had to argue just for the sake of argument and then do a 180 at the bottom. Again, maybe I'm just retarded and read into it the wrong way, but I can't see any other way I should've taken it.

Was a little bit bored last night and ordered an 8 core and some high zoot motherboard and liquid cooling kit. I bought a Titan in the fall, hopefully I'll end up with some retarded fps rate.:kickass:

I have a two-monitor setup and watch my Rainmeter CPU monitors on the second screen. Every game I've played uses just the cores, not the threads. I've got a Core i7-4750, which is quad core and dual thread, but the threads are never used, just the cores.

When it comes down to it, it's the GPU. My GTX 670 does the job for now.

Stormo made a comment about it looking like WoW.

I thought a few of the screenshots resembled something seen in WoW.

You emphatically declared "No way guys, you both are fucking dumb, it doesn't look anything like WoW in any shape or form, get your eyes checked!" (Boy, that was fun, no wonder you enjoy doing it so much!)

So I post some shots where it does actually resemble some of the TES shots (to me at least), if only marginally. But then agree that overall the game doesn't look like WoW. If I had not wanted to agree with you, I wouldn't have bothered. I never did a 180, but I also wasn't being completely black or white about it either.

I never said you guys were dumb , I just wanted to reassure John that it doesn't look like WoW at all, really, that Stormo was just being sarcastic and exaggerating for fun. It wasn't anything like, "You guys are fucking nuts, stfu!!" or some such silliness.

Castlevania tomorrow... hmm. It's shiny!

The reviews of it are some of the most polarizing too. Many of the earlier reviews, especially the majority from Europe were all in the 8 - 10 range, while the earliest reviews from the US were 4 - 6. Now that more scores are in, there are actually a handful more of 4 - 6 scores, while the majority sit between the 7 - 10 range.

I don't really let scores typically impact whether or not I'll buy a game, especially if it's something I've been really looking forward to, unless the average is sitting below 6/10 or 2/5 etc. I already purchased the game for $40 through GMG, so even if it turned out "bad", it's not a total waste. PC version is actually getting proper HD textures as well, and the developer was claiming that the game looks "next gen". It looked really great in the demo, and that didn't even have the HD textures yet.

Regardless, I enjoyed the first game well enough and the same issues I had with the first seemed to have made a return in the sequel (puzzles, along with the new stealth sections), but the combat is improved; which is the main reason to play a game like this anyway. Many people bitched about how the music in the first game "wasn't Castlevania" and that it was just "wannabe LOTR", yet I really enjoyed that, and most of the reviews at least can agree that the music is even better this time around.

I know man, and I was very liberally paraphrasing. Kind of like you do at times. Regardless, in the future if I happen to agree with you on something, there's no need to act like it's some kind of holiday. I've never had an issue with you just because we've argued about stupid shit at times. That's the primary reason I had no idea where your train of thought in that regard was coming from. I'll argue with anyone if I don't agree with them, just like I have no problem agreeing with people I might not particularly like.

Shadowrun Dragonfall is pretty damn good if you don't mind the old school type (Infinity Engine like) games. It requires Shadowrun Returns though; a game that's okay, but Dragonfall is much better overall. Hell, for anyone that loves Obsidian levels of writing, it's worth it.

Where did you read that TW3 won't be out until fall? That makes sense, but it's been listed at Q2 forever. Amazon just uses placeholder dates when they have no idea.

Also, I don't really consider the Souls games as "RPGs" at all, even if many others seem to think they are. It's an action RPG series with a high slant on combat (with ridiculous atmopshere) over everything else. Regardless, Dark Souls 2 arrives on the 11th, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Oh yeah, forgot that this was coming out today as well:

Yeah Dragonfall is pretty awesome. Kinda short, like its sister Dead Man's Switch, but definitely worth playing. Some great old-school turn-based role playing.

And if you're playing it and get miffed at Glory missing all the time, try switching her weapons ;)

Really like the game, but it was a bit on the easy side and it was also kind of strange to get all of these neat weapon drops, only to be able to use them on your main character (which I couldn't since I dumped everything into Wis/Spellcasting with my first character). I also didn't expect all of the "Mage" spells to just be simple projectiles that were analogous to a bullet or grenade. Guess I should have just played a Shaman huh?

Writing in it was excellent though, and the music--while mostly atmospheric--was outstanding. As far as Glory goes, I initially always had her on my team, and about half way through the game I realized that I could now switch her to melee (don't believe you can at the start) and she just tore shit up. Eventually though, she was benched so that I could always have Eiger. The Sniper/Shotgun combo was just too good.

South Park is fucking hilarious, although it's quite short for an RPG (took me 13 hours to complete with all of the quests). It's basically an extended epsiode and the combat closely resembles that of Paper Mario. So it's not really complex, but it was worth the $40 I paid for it (and I'm sure it's easily Redboxed for those not wanting the PC version). Many of the in-jokes have some required episode viewing though to truly get. It also lets you play as a "Dragonborn", so if you're looking for the next Skyim....

You can switch Glory's weapon from the start. Have her use her Adrenal Pump for +1AP, then have Dietrich Haste her and she becomes a 4AP monster and wrecks the place. I have my character tase the nearest enemy, then snipe another one while Glory ruins everyone else's day. Glory is my homegirl.

Yeah, I know about the 4AP thing, because she was the one I'd haste. I didn't realize you could actually switch her weapon at the start though. For some reason, I didn't notice it in her inventory at the mission select. Later on, each member upgrades their weapons, and it looked like she got her melee weapon upon her first upgrade. I would have probably kept her if my character wasn't a Mage.

In other news, the Diablo 3 2.0 patch was recently released if anyone gives a shit. I actually went back to the game for a few weeks when they released it on the consoles, and was pleasantly surprised with how well it functioned with a controller, and the increased drop rate. Monster density was pretty anemic though. Still not going to be Diablo 2 as long as the boring loot, infinite repsec/no consequence and boring skills with entirely too long cooldowns. The music is also mostly forgettable aside from the Tristram theme. Yet even that can't match the original version in any way, shape or form.

Does anyone here play StarCraft 2 PvP? I finally started playing again and man it's rough getting my skills and reflexes back.
