Dropping in to say that Witcher 3 is the best game to come out in a long time.

Yeah, it's pretty great for storytelling at least. Probably one of the best in the last few years. Gameplay wise though, I guess it just depends on what your tolerance levels for bullshit (horrible inventory overflowing with garbage loot and super uninteresting gear) or mediocrity (combat) are. There's so much to like about the game, but in some respects CDPR went overboard in a RDR or Ubisoft kind of way with "optional" filler. Plus, unless you stick with the main quests only, the pacing is nonsensical. The world itself is decent enough to explore, but the great-but-incessant music really hurts the atmosphere at times too. Despite all of its flaws, I still think Skyrim was the better RPG and it had a much more interesting world to explore.

Ghhh, seems I'll have to force myself to wrestle through The Witcher 2's shitty combat, because everyone is saying how AAAAAAAAA The Witcher 3 is.

If you didn't like the combat in TW2, you will probably really hate the combat in TW3. Seriously, it's almost like Fable combat unless you're playing on Death March. Then it's just tedious (LOL humans...). At first it seems like things were improved, but that feeling quickly fades. Only play it for the story. Usually I'd say don't bother, but it's actually really well done in that regard. Also, the amount of voice acting and interactions is pretty staggering. It seems like it's more than all three Mass Effect games and DA:I combined. Gwent is also actually really fun too as far as side games go.

One of my co-workers was nice enough to give me a Gamecube.

Any recommendations? I'm not very familiar with the console. I figured I would get the Zelda games, Paper Mario, and Skies of Arcadia. (which was one of my favorite RPGs on the Dreamcast

Depends on whether or not you like the Resident Evil games before 5.

REmake (which was just rereleased on consoles and PC)
RE Zero
RE4
Metroid Prime (I still prefer the side scrollers, but this was still great)
Viewtiful Joe
Okami

For RPGs? Not so much.

I've never played a Resident Evil game in my life. How scary are the Gamecube ones? I can deal with horror and general creepiness, but I can't do jump scares.

I actually did play Pikmin at a friends house, once. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for reminding me about that.

It has a lot of "jump scares". The general atmosphere (the setting and especially the awesome music and sound effects) are creepy as fuck, but what really gets you is the joy buzzer stuff.

It was funny watching one of my friends play the Director's Cut in '98. He involuntarily threw the controller across the room during one sequence. Did you ever end up getting a different laptop or PC? Did you play Skyrim on PC, or did you play it on a console? If it was PC, whatever you used could run the current PC version of REmake that was just released. You can get that for super cheap. Or cheaper than that.

If you doubt you'll ever play RE2 or RE3, you should just watch some Youtube videos to see if you can handle that type of gameplay. RE4 on the other hand must be played. It changes the status quo quite a bit. RE4 is the point where the series becomes much more action based than the previous games, but it still retains enough of the creepiness and gross creature designs to be considered a horror game. But everything is just faster, and ammo isn't nearly as scarce. It's not "easy" in the same way most modern action games are though.

Nier was one of the best games I've ever played, with hands down the best soundtrack. Can't wait. The game had me drooling over Kaine for 20 hours, only to make me realize she was a he all along. You learn that literally everything you did was brutal/abysmal despite seeming rightous from your characters point of view. To get the true ending, the game forces you to watch as all your items, quest data, and save files are erased.

Nier had more balls than any game ever made, and I highly encourage you all to play it! Even it's predocessor, Drakengard, is worth playing despite what a shitty game it is, if only because it's so bizzare.

But, what I'm excited for, is Shenmue 3. I've been waiting 15 years for this game.

What else? Fallout 4, Final Fantasy VII, Deus Ex, this years E3 has been incredible, all thanks to Sony.

I agree with everything you say, except, Kainé isn't a 'he', she is very vaguely hinted at being a hermaphrodite several times, but not more. And those hints could also be interpreted as the duality of Kainé herself being female, with the male Tyrann living inside her. The writers deliberately left the truth of the matter open for discussion, but what's certain is that Kainé isn't male - she is either biologically intersex, or a female body co-inhabited by a male spirit.

Besides, with that butt, I'm sure we can all be flexible in our tastes ^_^

You sure, dude? I remember reading part of the EU (I don't remember if it was Nier Gestalt or Grimoire Noir or what) and she rapes the corpse of this boy because he reminds her of Nier.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm sure your memory is better than mine. But I also remember seeing some bulge in said art work of those text.

Indeed.
