Glenn's Top 50 Albums of 2024

Thanks, Glenn, for pointing out Crypt Sermon.....I went right out and bought a copy of this release. It's right in my wheelhouse. Holy cow...after the first listen I was thinking Sirens era Savatage mixed with Tad Morose....so yes, the Morgana Lefay comparison works, lol.

One of my favorite releases this year was Simone Simons- Vermillion. Arjen and Simone pair up so nicely.

I can already tell this is going to take me a much longer time to get through the list this year. Seems like the last couple, I sort of cruised through, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass... Heads is just in a different place is all, and a lot just sounds the same these days.

I started at the top, hit Albion since that's sort of where I'm at these days, and holy shit did that hit just right. I went ahead and jumped to #1, and I've only made it a few up the entire day from listening to each album. I'm sure I've listened to some of the list already this year, but don't know what yet.

Thanks for putting that together Glenn.

Making this post before I even read the list. The big change for me over the last several years is that my bandwidth for new music shrunk as podcasts ate up much of my listening time each day. I'm not upset about it, though I wish I had more time to enjoy both. I haven't cared about keeping up with the flurry of new releases in a long time, and I never had the funds for my too-many hobbies, but a great new album still sparks real joy. I only search for new music by myself occasionally, but your year-end top 50 is always a reliable source, since your tastes are so amazingly varied but have always overlapped a lot with my own. Often days, weeks, or even months after you post your ranking, I'll come back to try another 5-10, knowing I'll find at least a few delights. Over the years your top 50 has been directly responsible for me discovering many of my favorite new bands and albums. I hope you'll keep making these lists for years after stepping away from running the festival. Whether you do or not, please know that your music recommendations have had a tremendous impact on me (long before these Top 50 lists or ProgPower, of course), and I'm sure I'm not alone.
