Nice to see someone mention The Olden Domain. I like the first two Borknagar quite a bit. Especially “Grimland Domain” from that album.

I don't particularly care for Borknagar, but I thought this recent song/video was cool purely as a vocal showdown between Garm/Vintersorg/Vortex/Lazare. Garm wins of course.

The Olden Domain is monumental. The atmosphere is incredible and it features most ferocious performance from Garm. Grim's drumming is bestial as well.

i actually own that album along with Universal and think they're both okay albums at best. When i feel like listening to black metal its usually not the softer stuff like Borknagar

Borknagar is not just black metal. It's like looking for black metal in Enslaved post-Blodhemn.

Both bands rapidly go downhill for me post their first 2 albums. So they have that in common. But the first 2 Enslaved easily destroy the first two Borknagar imo. Vikingligr Veldi is top tier black metal for me.

I’m not sure if I would even like the first two Borknagar if I was only just hearing them now, but I listened to them pretty early into my exploration of black metal so they have a bit of nostalgic value.
