GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1998

I knew a chick back when I was just out of high school who would read the end of a book, watch Youtube videos of the end of a video game and watch the end of a series to see if they were worth getting into, before trying them out. She was fucking retarded just like that album fastforwarding dickhead.

I can sort of understand that for games provided that 1) the player doesn't value story, 2) watching the end doesn't spoil the strategy/challenge, and 3) they actually play it to the end even after seeing the end.

8) Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka by Nile
We come before Thee wearing serpent headed Masks...

"Amongst The Catacombs Of Nephren-Ka might be my favorite Nile album. Its clearly not their best album though." - @Master_Yoda77

"That's really the only Nile album I genuinely like. Granted, you could do much better than Nile, but the debut is easily their best: much more straightforward and less gay than the others." - @HaggardBastard

"I've changed my opinion on Nile's Amongst The Catacombs. That album is fucking awesome, definitely their second best after Darkened Shrines." - @waif

"Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka will always be my first love, even though consciously I acknowledge that Black Seeds of Vengeance is a superior album, it's a nostalgia thing. :D" - @CASSETTEISGOD

"Great album but Black Seeds will be their best in my eyes" - @The Ozzman

She basically exclusively played JRPGs.

@CASSETTEISGOD did you find the Candlemass thread? i think my deleted post is what threw you off

Yeah dude that threw me off! I was thinking "damn did it get deemed pointless and deleted."

I got over the nostalgia thing, it's no longer my favourite. :D

I thought I've seen some good words about Arch-era Fates Warning and a few others even if they're not explicitly reviewed on their website, but I could be wrong. Probably just pederasty between the generations.

nah you're right, prozak himself didn't care about trad i don't think, but the anusites around here liked fates warning, '70s priest, helstar, a few other things.

Dark Legions Archive had positive reviews of some trad metal, including Helstar.

7) New Dark Age by Solstice
Cast ever out to the tides of time...

"Solstice ranks up there in the top of epic doom, pretty much only Candlemass and Scald that tops them. New Dark Age is easily their masterpiece." - @Vilden

"Last couple threads I read, people highly considering new dark age from solstice, anyone else think the production is just to clean? Lamentations is just so much better imo" - @rms

"So epic, so good. I used to prefer Lamentations, but this is definitely the better record." - @Phylactery

"No love for solstice makes me sad. Easily better than anything candlemass ever did" - @J.

"New Dark Age is so overlong. I'm someone that compulsively sits through most albums even when I feel sick of them halfway through, and still struggle to finish that one. The acoustic/folky stuff in the middle is the best part of the album." - @HamburgerBoy

"Big yes to Solstice. Lamentations is great, but New Dark Age is even better" - @Rumpole

6) Obscura by Gorguts
Obscure feeling of immensity...

"Obscura is hard to listen to and might actually be the most overrated, overworshipped death metal album on this board. It seems like one of those albums people profess their love for but don't actually listen to it.

Hell I'll say I flat out hate it.

"Of course you would hate it, it's just not on the same level as those awesome whitechapel albums you listen to." - @TechnicalBarbarity

"Only Gorguts I've ever enjoyed is Obscura tbh." - @The Butt

""I'm monogamously homosexual for DSBM, but I pretend to enjoy certain critically-acclaimed albums from other sub-genres to maintain a good image"

The Erosion of Sanity is clearly superior for anyone that cares about riffs.
" - @HamburgerBoy

"People who think Gorguts' first two albums are better than their last two are complete faggots who should be forced to listen to Obscura on repeat until they think differently." - @WCannibal

"Gorguts- Obscura is the best "prog" metal album.

It also just so happens to be the best metal album.
" - @Cynical

"only gorguts album i've heard is Obscura. yep, overrated just like Demilich." - @J.

"No other DM album is as technical, as sick, as twisted, as fucked up yet still cohesive as this album. Proof is that even though its 5 years old many people still have trouble grasping its ingenuinity. Obscura is avantgarde Death Metal, all other DM is obsolete next to this masterpiece." - @diabolical vengeance
