Immortal Pride is 1999, I have the exact cassette that MA claims is a 1998 release and it says 1999 on the tape so it's clearly a mistake.

Otherwise it'd be in my top 5.

HM also to Covenant's Nexus Polaris for being one of my extreme metal gateway albums, even if I couldn't stomach listening to it nowadays.

The top three are pretty solidly in place with the remaining being a bit more uncertain. Great year with a lot of great stuff I'm likely missing from not having listened to in ages.

They're kind of a tough band to peg, but I'd say they sound sort of like early Katatonia except with more testicular fortitude

North has really stuck with me - it has extremely high peaks imo (tracks 1, 2, 5 and 6). One of the few more recent black metal albums that I’ve attached nostalgic feelings to. Doesn’t do anything new, but their mix of more primitive black metal with the more grandiose gives it a unique flavour.

I think New Dark Age is overall a better album but Lamentations has songs that get stuck in my head for weeks and it was the first Solstice I heard so there's some nostalgia bias.

I'm listening to it now. It's definitely good, but it sounds just as good as Lamentations to my ears. I'd rather be listened to Scald though.
