I'm blanking on what 90's doom metal album, besides Scald, is better than New Dark Age unless of course you prefer Lamentations.

I can see why an autistic tech/prog/weird metal fan would find it boring, it's also pretty long which can drag at times. It's not an album I just slap on frivolously tbh.

"In-crowd" is still a meaningless label though, you should either clearly define it or stop using it, it's becoming pretty embarrassing.

I love Die Healing, and Will of Gods is Great Power has grown a lot. New Dark Age just feels like pretentious posturing, which is sensible considering the entire existence of the Miskatonic Foundation. About as subtle as Manowar but not remotely fun.

Weird year this, very few THE BEST ALBUM EVER albums, but lots of VERY GOOD albums. Only top 3 are in the real god tier imo.

I always though my main reason for snubbing 1998 was just for a few big-name missteps like Virtual XI, but thinking about it, this really was a prime in-crowd year. The top 3-5 is probably going to be the worst of any year up to now sans perhaps 2009.
