RYM ALBUMS LIST
RYM EP LIST

Reminder of the rules:
- please submit at least *5* releases. But just remember, real men vote at 10.
- first place in your rankings gets 10 points, 2nd gets 9, etcetc, 10th gets 1.
- feel free to post more than 10, but only the top 10 will get points.
- feel free to post less than 10, the same scoring will apply.
- feel free not to rank your picks, in which case all ten picks will get 5.5 points.
- if you're so much of a dick that you have to post more than 10 unranked picks, only the first 10 will count. In other words, go back to the third rule.

Submit your lists by April 1st.

March 1st?! Holy shit, that’s a long time.

This has been a good year for death metal. Some pretty good black metal and thrash metal released as well.

I haven’t really looked into any other genres. Any recommendations for trad and doom from this year?

I didn’t recommend that Magic Circle because I felt like they strayed away from traditional doom a tad went with some stoner/blues/graveyard influencer that I’ve never noticed Phylactery mention liking before. Still, good album. I need to relisten to Altar of Oblivion. Own the album but don’t remember it very much

oh also Fvneral Fvck. Retarded band name but true epic doom metal.

I'm fellating local releases even more than last year. I didn't go too far out of my way to try and discover stuff, but even a band like Mayhem that usually makes my list (in this millennium) has gone off in a weird direction to my ears.

For now, I choose:

1 - Deathspell Omega - The Furnaces of Palingenesia. It's not just unique, well executed, perfectly produced, but the compositions are really well crafted and the lyrics are probably their most inhuman to date. Truly intimidating album without relying on speed to get the job done.

2 - Mgla - Age of Excuse

3 - Blut Aus Nord - Hallucinogen

4 - Sühnopfer - Hic Regnant Borbonii Manes

5 - Vltimas - Something Wicked Marches In

6 - Dark Fury - Flooded Lands

7 - Hate - Auric Gates of Veles

8 - Alcest - Spiritual Instinct

9 - Batushka - Panihida

Nile - Vile Nilotic Rites
Beheaded - Only Death Can Save You
Disentomb - The Decaying Light
Memoriam - Requiem for Mankind (a solid improvement over the debut. I never heard the second album)
Carnal - Lecherous Acts of Hedonism
Illdisposed - Reveal Your Soul For The Dead

I may get a few more in the list after spinning the Nucleus again but probably not. Kinda don't care about these polls anymore. The new Blood Incantation was overhyped.

Definitely hyped to fuck, but I gotta be honest it was one of the few hyped albums in recent memory that was actually very good. Will definitely be in the upper half of my list.

I mean, it wasn't bad but it wasn't the best thing since sliced bread like people made it out to be. Probably a 6.5/10 to me but there were a lot of good death metal records this year

New Blood Incantation is probably death metal aoty for me but yeah a lot of good death metal this year. Really got me back in the mood when interest had waned in the past couple years.

I was going through some of the hyped death metal releases lately and holy shit, so many contenders for the top 10 there. The new Blood Incantation and Nile will be popular choices, but man, Witch Vomit, Cerebral Rot, Ignivomous, Tomb Mold, Runemagick, they all fucking slay.

EDIT: I forgot Krypts and Devourment. Also, haven't listened to the Mortiferum album yet - that landed high on the RYM list!

Subject to change/rearrangement. Such an awesome and diverse year, I feel slightly uneasy about some of the things I had to leave off but it is what it is.

Neanderthal Parallax has without a doubt been my go-to album when I'm reading at night. The bass playing on "A Freezing Cave" especially is so menacing and awesome.

Blood Incantation's "Awakening From the Dream of Existence to the Multidimensional Nature of Our Reality (Mirror of the Soul)" is my song of the year. Really enjoy the album's effortless transitions between styles like Immolation, Demilich, 90's era Death, Incantation, Morbid Angel, The Chasm, all while retaining a consistency that doesn't feel patchworky. I think once the hype settles down and a few years have passed, this album will be viewed as a 2010's classic.

Regarding the new Feg; I felt about as unenthusiastic as everybody else seemed to feel when it first came out, but at this point it's easily one of my most played albums. Everything is so vibrant, energetic, rich and catchy. "Coming of Age in the Milky Way" might just be one of my favourite Feg tracks in general. The album is pure class, reminds me of how I felt about Voïvod's recent album in that it came out, I liked it, but then it took a backseat to the rest of the year's music, but by the end of the year it had slowly worked its way to the top of my list. Anybody that shelved it and forgot about it, I highly recommend giving it a few more spins, it really is a wonderful thing. I dare you to play "Being and Nothingness" and not fucking headbang.

@Einherjar86 particularly interested in what you think about the new Feg album, if and when you get around to hearing it.

Dude you really like Neoanderthals. Also thanks for reminding me to listen to the new Slough Feg, I seem to forget about the traditional styles but I've always liked Slough Feg.
