We've got a bunch of albums tied for 7th place, so maybe yous could help out with that.
Bauhaus is pretty damn wierd and good.
Kelly Slater just rolled in at my favorite Irish pub so I got to meet him. I was wearing a Bauhaus shirt and he complimented it. Bonus.
uhm...
im quite worried that on a thread with 'goth music' in the name, only one person has mentioned Bauhaus...
Bauhaus were the band who started the whole goth thing.
just listen to them lol
then listen to Sisters of Mercy and Fields of the Nephilim
then Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Damned
then Dead can Dance
then Evanescence, Nightwish, All About Eve and Inkubus Sukkubus
then The Mission's early stuff
then The Cure's early stuff
also, make sure you like the Sex Pistols, as they started the punk movement and without them there would have been no goth.
That's an odd choice for guilty pleasure as they are highly respected in that genre of music... unless you are saying that most metalheads would look down on it in which case it would be a guilty pleasure in that respect.
Personally I'm a fan though I think they have some crappy music as well as the good stuff.
My favorite Sodom album.
Agent Orange's Living in Darkness is one of the most insanely catchy punk albums ever and is totally unique.
Before I listened to metal I have to admitt I was pretty close minded when it came to music.
I mostly listened to punk bands such as:
NOFX
Circle Jerks
Agent Orange
AFI
Anti-Flag
Rancid
H20
GBH
Pennywise
Dead Kennedy's
stuff like that..
For more general stuff widely heralded but maybe not super well known to a non-punk fan, there's Die Kreuzen (Voivod's biggest influence, dissonant stuff) and Agent Orange (twangy surf rock influenced punk).
Moving Pictures at 7 is interesting but like I've said Rush only has one bad album if you could consider it bad
Moving Pictures is the only Rush album i own, but I like it so much, that it's definitely not going to stay that way.
I have tried and failed to get into Rush. I listened to Moving Pictures in it's entirety. It's not just that Geddy Lee's voice is horrible. I just wasn't interested at all in the music.
The Birthday Party and Lubricated Goat was fucked up stuff.
Nick Cave's great man,The Birthday Party are probably my favourite post-punk band.
The Birthday Party is wild as fuck! Nick Cave does no wrong.
The Birthday Party were crazy for their time.
