I've been getting into them slowly lately (don't know why I waited so long). I actually bought Emperial Live Ceremony today and I'm fuckin loving it. I'm leaning towards buying Promotheus next but maybe you guys could help me choose. thanks

I bought Prometheus first... and it turned me off Emperor for about a year. Fortunatly, I was daring enough to buy Anthems... and that got me hooked. I'd say either Anthems or Nightside would be worthy purchases.

I'd actually say Anthems. A fine album on its own, but getting ITNE after it will make you appreciate the album even more, methinks. Or maybe it's the other way around...

IX Equilibrium was the first black metal CD I ever bought. I Literally just saw it in a store and thought "Hmm that looks evil," so i got it.

NOTE: this was when korn was still one of my favorite bands, so buying it helped me get into alot better bands.

i love wrath of the tyrant, 2nd album i got from emperor.
the first though - was Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, fucking amazing.

Start out with Anthems... as it is easily one of the greatest BM albums ever. You can listen to it a thousand times and still find new layerings and depths to it. That being said, it does take a while to sink in. Prometheus isn't a bad starter, especially if your coming from a more progressive or technical background. Both albums are brillant and odds are you're gonna own both soon enough...

As for Wrath... it lives on nothing but atmosphere as the songwriting isn't that impressive. How anyone could compare it to their four legit albums is beyond me. Still decent if you're a hardcore fan, or just into really raw stuff, cuz it does get the job done. It was just a messy job to start out with...

well, it was the atmosphere in Wrath that i loved.
i am black wizards . . . . . bwoargh!!
prometheus is good, but i still prefer Anthems to everything else. from "Alsvartr (The Oath)" to "The Wanderer" , it is beautiful. i just wish you could hear the vocals more.

Nightside > Anthems > Prometheus > IX Equilibrium

Almost.

Nightside > Anthems = pre-ITNE stuff (since there is really 3 or 4 different discs of similar material) > Prometheus = IX Equilibrium

Promoetheus is lacking the atmosphere that made the old songs great. Anthems is at least technically interesting though suffers slightly in atmosphere. IX is on par with Prometheus, however, its the final descent from old majestic songs into extreme/death metal.

Cutting the story short. If your into death metal probably best to try Anthems. Maybe IX. ITNE is great if you are far more into BM than other metal, more appreciatable from a BM fan stance.
