Well dudes, my JSX is long gone, and today arrived my Orange Tiny Terror! I bought it used off ebay, it's made in Korea (the new ones are made in China and are apparently inferior in quality; this could just be ebay hype but I highly doubt the ones made in Korea are any worse, so better safe than sorry!), and HOLY SHIT does it bark! God, even in the room (I didn't have a chance to mic it today, that'll happen this Thursday though, I promise
), it just annihilates my old JSX, and my TS7 just makes it all the sweeter; honestly, first impressions are this is EXACTLY what I was looking for in an amp; tight, crunchy, and with a BARK, ooooh man am I stoked on it.
Funny thing, though - when I first fired it up, I was surprised at how little gain there was, even with the gain knob on the amp AND the "level" knob on my TS7 both maxed! Then, I opened it up, and saw that the previous owner had given it the full JJ retube, except that in V1 was a ECC82, otherwise known as a 12AY7. So I emailed Doug at Dougstubes.com, and found out a 12AY7 only supplies 19 motherfucking percent of the gain of a 12AX7!!! So evidently this previous owner was also a humongous vagina, and I quickly remedied the situation by sticking my Tung-Sol and Shuguang 9th Gen. 12AX7's (left over from my JSX) in V1 and V2, respectively, and voila! Now I get the perfect amount of gain with the TT knob at 3 o'clock!
