Goodbye (and good riddance) JSX, hello Tiny Terror!!!

I support your message of course Kaz, but in case you didn't know, Orange is British, not American ;) And I doubt anything above this in their product line is made in Asia, and this seems to be ridiculously well-built (and South Korea is an OK place I think, we just watched a video about it in my Polisci class and Kim Dae Jung, their current president, is apparently considered like the Asian Nelson Mandela).

i don't care how great of a guy the south korean president is, it still blows that everyone's sending this type of work overseas to capitalize on not only cheaper labor, but also much less stringent worker's rights and environmental protection laws

We got one in the shop now connected to a Framus 2x12". I found out that blues-guys don't like this combo, because it's so tight and aggressive. And, yes, the blues-guys were the first ones (and the only ones!) to try it out and that gave a wrong impression on me on how powerful this thing is..

So, yesterday we tried it with a 7-string ESP and plowed into it! Hot damn! Didn't need a TS in front of it with the EMG-707s.

And it's so cute!! :oops::lol:

Orange is outsourcing to Asia too? Is nothing sacred??

Fuck companies outsourcing to Asia. I am so fucking sick of this ghetto Chinese crap... Nothing against people from these countries, they just have no manufacturing standards, and China has no human rights.

We're in the middle of a fucking economic crisis in the USA, I think largely because we're outsourcing a bunch of jobs overseas that should be done by Americans with American manufacturing standards. This is especially important with things like tube amps!!!!

Personally I couldn't give a flying fuck where instruments etc are made, or who makes them. If it puts world class instruments and amps in the hands of the masses, and not just spoilt kids and people with lots of disposable income, then its all good for me.
I also get very tired of this whole argument that no one in the world is capable of making anything other than Americans and Brits.
The fact is, its nonsense. The most reliable and most technologically advanced cars come from Asia, the most advanced electronics come from Asia, the vast majority of electrical goods come from Asia. Even electrical goods from other countries are only assembled there, the parts come from Asia. If the Chinese can build the biggest wall ever, I don't think its beyond them to knock a few amps together in a factory. They do have factories you know, some of the biggest and most modern in the world. They don't make them in a kitchen while the rice is cooking.
I remember 25-30 years ago this argument was being used against Japanese manufacturers because of all the replicas that were flooding the market. The truth was, they were kicking Gibson and Fenders ass at their own game for half the price. Nowdays, its a given that some of the best luthiers, and some of the most prestigious brands on the plannet are Japanese.
10 years from now, China will be making the best guitars, the best amps etc, get used to it.
When I was working in retail, it was a period when a lot of stuff was being farmed out to China and Korea, and most people didn't even notice the difference.............so much for them not having manufacturing standards. And, most of the amp repairs that went through the shop were either British made Marshalls, or American made Mesa's.
BTW, Orange is a British company, so either way no American jobs are being lost.

I know that Orange is British, I was just giving things from the American perspective. I supposed I should have stated that more clearly. Orange needs to keep building amps in the UK as well, though...

I'm all for free trade, but I'm against this rampant outsourcing to sweat shops, or other countries in general. Keep labor inside your own country, in other words. I'm fine with South Korea as a country, too, I just don't think we need to be outsourcing over there or anywhere else.

Boiling the US economic crisis down to being about bad mortgages is simplistic and ignores a host of other issues that are just as significant, if not more so.

Back to Orange, though, I love their amps. I just can't believe they're outsourcing outside the UK - I thought they were all about being vintage.

Yeah, it's a tough issue to be sure - my feeling on it (though this not a very thought out or researched opinion, so it's open to change) is that I'm ok with outsourcing as long as its to countries where there aren't any human rights abuses occuring - and in the case of Korea, I highly doubt there are, since independent labor unions are legal and encouraged by the government (asked my Polisci teacher about this today, actually). So in that sense, Dave, yeah, I agree with you, but at the same time, I don't support putting "world class instruments and amps in the hands of the masses" when many other masses have to suffer for it (not implying you feel that way, but sometimes people don't think of how they're able to get the bargains that they are, e.g. WAL-MART)

I can't wait to get home and check that clip out Marcus, my work has MySpace blocked so I'm not able to check it out for a few hours :(

I am getting one of these by the end of the year to go along with the Rev Jr. I just scored :) Fucking :headbang:

... and American prices????

:)

i must get my hands on one of these some-time, tried one out in a store once and was fairly impressed. i was going to build one from scratch for my last amp project but decided on a different design at the last minute.
will probably just end up buying a factory one in a few years when i can afford it :)

They are all doing it man, Marshall, Laney, even Carlsbro a company I was loyal to for many years. I have the last amp they produced in the UK. The rare but awesome sounding 50TOP Evolution two channel tube head. The amp itself is a kind of cross between a Cornford MK and a Mesa single rec solo head. It sounds fkn incredible.
Then they shipped everything to China, stopped making tube amps altogether and concentrate mainly on PA gear. Their guitar range is now a fkn joke. And this was a small outfit started in the early 70s by a couple of guys on an industrial esate in Nottingham. Their GLX150 from the early 90s was an awesome amp. I used one for 13 years, played a zillion of gigs with it. It was all solid state, but the ammount of guys that thought it was a tube head I lost count of. It had one service in 13 years, and all it needed was the jack socket replaced.
A lot of the UK amp companies, and I believe this is true for orange, have farmed out their budget ranges out to Asia. Many of them still have factories here in the UK.
But, as I said, so long as the product doesn't suffer, if it means world class tone for any budget, I'm all for cheap manufacturing.

The Tiny Terror is indeed a beast. I'm just getting rid of mine though, as I found a buyer for it. Mine is Korean too BTW. I like it for recording, but otherwise it's a bit too simple for me; I really prefer having two channels and a FX loop. If I had more money, I'd keep it for recording.

+1.
And i don't care if its more expensive if its build well and lasts longer.

It would be quite interesting to hear what the tone knob actually does in this amp. Could record some random riffage and just sweep the tone control from 0 to 10(or 11 if possible :p) ?

A lot. It goes from complete mush to ear piercing bright. I found my favourite setting was at about 10-11 o'clock with my (super bright sounding) ash bodied baritone 7 and a 4x12" v30 cab.

Just sold mine yesterday and I already miss it :erk:
