Got one of these Presonus Firestudio thingos!

Well looks like it's the Firewire Card...fucking ridiculous. Even got the TI Chipset Like they said (which I had to find out, they dont actually mention this on the product page). Turns out my TI Chipset is incompatible. So know I have to go to the computer store and hope they let me exchange it for another one.

Man, that sucks. Kinda puts me off getting a firewire interface incase I have the same bullshit you've had, as I don't have onboard firewire and would need a card.

I'm just pissed off as I was looking forward to making clips after a long weeks work.

Now I get this. :waah:

Looks like no clippage until tomorrow (granted this new firewire card works)

They are misadvertising them as "Firewire Recording Devices"...that's a big fail. They are "TI Chipset Devices with a bit of VIA and that's bout it Recording Devices"

I had problems with my firewire card as well, but got a Belkin firewire card at Staples for a rediculous amount of money (that was easy) and it's been working flawlessly as my primary soundcard ever since.

Also, make sure you try the other firewire port on the Firestudio, i think my cheapy VIA card actually fried the inputs on mine. Hard to explain, but since firewire runs voltage, you can actually fry shit if something grounds out or whatever. Presonus Tech Support was pretty cool and responded to emails, they wanted me to send it back for repair, but i just sent it back to the dealer and got a replacement.

Here's my PreSonus thread:

Do you have anything else in your system that would be incompatible? I know the ATI Radeon 9000 series video cards don't get along well with Presonus.

It might be something totally whacky. My laptop battery was interfering with my new Edirol, and once I took the battery out and was running solely on A/C adapter, it was flawless.

i got a firestudio a few months back, have hardly even used it so far unfortunately...did a few a/b tests when i first got it, comparing it to my old firepod (definitely sounds better btw)

hopefully i'll be doing some recording with my new band soon, so i can really put the thing to use...i know i bought it for something!

POIDABOI,

What OS are you running?

If you have XP service pack 2 there is a Firewire patch that needs to be done.

Make sure you disable your other sound devices, and any wireless internet cards.

Personally, my PC is set up for audio only with all the excess crap turned off.

Seems like the Belkin card is the way to go. The one I got is Firewire 400 only, no 800 ports or usb on there. that's what presonus recommended.

It's not the computer. It's the Firewire Card. I work in IT support. My computer is running flawless. :). Fully up to date. Cleaned. Defraged. The works. I know how to maintain the pc. That's why I expected it to work. :waah:

I just wish they fucking INFORMED POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS OF THIS BULLSHIT BEFORE I BOUGHT IT.

They fucking expect me to have to research and go to their ridiculous forum to find out.

I should have an answer for everyone soon when I go buy another firewire card.

Fuck this. I'm going to the store now. This is pissing me right off.

You've done the firewire patch though?
And have it optimized for audio?

(not doubting you, just that's very important with the presonus it seems)

I agree that you shouldn't have to deal with that shit. I'm very unimpressed with Presonus' issues. Their drivers and driver updates are horrible. But, fortunatly since I got the FStudio working it has been pretty flawless so I haven't bothered updating the drivers or firmware. The only problem is there really isn't alot of competition for the product (maybe the saffire line) but they have just as many issues.

Good and Bad News.

Good. Got a full refund on the Firewire Card.

Bad. Cannot find anywhere that sells a Firewire Card I need.

I'll have another look next weekend.

At the moment I'm stuck with a completely usesless "TI and VIA 6308 Recording Device". :ill:

:rock::rock::rock:

The Presonus is working with the VIA chipset Card they said to have.

OMFG the 5150 sounds SIIIIIICK!

Good to see the gear is finally working. I got a firebok myself. Never had issues with it ever! Touch wood...... Everyone else I know has had nothing but a massive pain in the dick time trying to sort their gear out to work properly though. I've never seen one work properly with a firewire card though. The firewire shit I use is built into my mo/bo so I've never had to worry about it. Had I went thru all the trouble you've been thru to get it working, I surely would have got my fruit cannon out by now and shot the fucking thing to pieces!
