Basically, I'm looking for something along the lines of Tristania's Widow's Weeds and early Theatre of Tragedy. I've been browsing related lists on RYM, but thought I'd ask around here as well.

I like older Theatre of Tragedy. I'd probably check out Leaves' Eyes 'lovelorn because Liv. She's amazing on this record and it's also musically amazing. I'm pretty big into Lacuna Coil and some Gathering, but to me it's more as being rock.

I like Julie Kiss and To-Mera.

Thanks, guys. I'm currently at work so I don't have access to Youtube, but I'll be sure to scribe down all the artists you've proposed.
I need to get me some Tiamat as well.

Virgin Black does some very cool symphonic gothic stuff. Check out the albums Sombre Romantic, Elegant... and Dying, and Requiem- Mezzo Forte.

My favorite Tiamat is Clouds although it's probably not the best starting point. You should be safe with Wildhoney and beyond although Skeleton Skeletron is more club-oriented goth music. I never did hear the newest but I have everything else. I smell a marathon...

Oh yeah, the first Leaves' Eyes is my fav. I'm a big fan of Liv's vocals. She has a unique calming coo balanced with nice power. The rest of their albums I would almost classify as viking-lite, but she's cool so I buy them.

Tiamat `wildhoney is one of my favorite metal albums ever written.
