I mean, writing lyrics is not as difficult as it seems, but you have to get the gift for sure.

Lyrics are important, even in metal, and it sure aint easy to write good ones. I think one of the most ballanced albums regarding music/lyrics is Prophetic Luster from a finnish band called Deepred. Its brutal death metal of the highest quality and the lyrics likewise. BUT, as the exception confirming the rule, theres one text written not by the singer, but by the guitarist and compared to the rest it really sucks.

however is not the same for writing really good lyrics than simple commercial lyrics, if you mean it.

i meant the really good lyrics; everybody is able to write some piece of crap without real meaning. dt has some excellent ones

Having a music grade in college is not always required for being an excellent musician or composer, as far as I know, a lot of the best musicians do not get a graduation from music school or something related.

@Phish:As you said, in all case talent is needed for writing lyrics or composing music, not every one can do an amazing song just because.
