Alright i'm not looking to do the T-pain effect here....lol

I'm just looking to pitch correct and edit vocals dead on and give it that polish over.
here is a screen shot of a vocal phrase i corrected
autotune.jpg

Basically you just go in and straighten out the Wavey humps correct?

Also i came across this video

He is using pro tools in the video .....But how can i print down to track like that in Nuendo...I'm having a brain freeze and i can't think of how i could do that.....

Also Please anyone discuss how they work in graphic mode any tips of workflow.....IT would be really great if Joeymusicguy can comment on some methods.

non t-pain pitch correction using auto tune in graphical mode in nuendo:

1. left click to select the event you wish to tune on the vocal track
2. right click the event, go to plugins->auto tune
3. auto tune window opens, click on graphical mode, make sure clock is set to INTERNAL
4. mess with input type according to what you're about to input to auto tune (what range is the voice / melody)
5. click Track Pitch, then click Preview, allow clip to play all the way through (it will loop when its finished)
6. click track pitch again, then click stop
7. set retune speed per application
example settings: main take, 10 retune speed
double, 20 retune speed
harmony, 15 retune speed
8. click Snap to Note, grab the straight line tool (first tool on the left)
9. look at each note the singer is trying to hit, leave the beginning of the note (falling or rising to the note) alone...
10. find the first second within the timeline that the singer's pitch intersects with that actual note, click here to start note correction
11. carry on throughout the note until you've reached the spot where the singer's pitch is leaving the note
12. listen back, is the correction what you wanted? (sometimes the singer falls off the note when you dont want him/her to, and that will need to be corrected)

after all corrections are made, hit process. the original event is replaced with the tuned event.

The workflow that this guy shows is pretty powerful, he just shows a very QUICK way of doing it so the video doesn't drag on too much.
Stay in graphic mode, but you can still tweak your retune and choosy settings. If what you're going for is the VERY T-Pain effect, set it to FAST:1 CHOOSY:-100. It will basically sound as synthesized as autotunedly possilbe at that point. I don't personally condone the use of this as a CORRECTION tool as much as an EFFECT cuz let's be honest, they mapped out voice to synths in the 70s and 80s LONG before Antares and Celemony were around, and with a lot of those R&B and Funk tracks it actually sounds BAD ASS

Just get meticulous with how and where you set your correction points. You can scoop them around, do all kinds of weird chipmunky things to them, even program vocal arpeggios (see "The Lonely Island: I'm On A Boat")

As a ProTools user I wish I could help on the Nuendo logistics, but I can't, but i have to assume there's a similar way in the DAW to create a track in which you can bus your input from the output of your audio track with autotune as the insert.

Hey thanks allot Joey for the tips, i was hoping you would chime in.

So Once you track pitch you don't worry about hitting Make Curve?
you just go right in with the line tool

How did the picture above look as far as start and stop points....its a little off but is it something like what you explained in 10. and 11.

Also if you think about it and a have a few,, You should throw up a quick screen shot of some of your vocal edits.(as far as the start and stop points)
but i'm pretty sure i got the hang of it...I wish i could zoom in more on the graphic mode!!

thanks again dude

Also i already did this once but what do you do when you hit process and you listen back with the music and something is off...You got to re do it? i guess you just cant mess up...lol

chonchball i wanted to keep the t-pain effect settings off this thread if possible

I'm wanting natural dead on key vocals

offline process history, I believe it's in the audio menu. It's a godsend.

oh my bad, i misread what you typed.
Loosen up the Retune and Tracking and it won't make it synthy and keep it more natural. 25/40 is usually really good, or if the singer is better than horrible you can use 15/25. it changes from singer to singer.

it doesnt matter what the blue line looks like. you draw straight lines but the pitch doesnt become straight

go ahead and do all my steps, then open it up in graphical mode again and look at the pitch

unless the retune speed is set to 0, it wont be a straight line, even though you drew straight lines
