Graveland

So I listened to Raise your Sword. I think the problem I have with it, and the same problem the first time I heard it, is that the production is weak for such a large 'sounding' album. The guitars are too treble-heavy and almost tinny sounding. If memory serves me right, Immortal Pride didn't seem to suffer from this as much. I did like track #3 "U Objecia Smierci" (sp?) and the vocals don't annoy me as much as they used to.

By the way, if the vocals are all "arrrghh blarrgh" etc, then what's the point of translating them from Polish to English, and vice versa? That makes no sense.
If the production bothers you, don't go any earlier than Immortal Pride, as it only gets worse. Personally, I've never been a production critic, so It doesn't really bother me.

Yeah, a lot of the vocals are like that, but he actually uses English the majority of the time. That song on RYS is the only song I have that uses Polish.

Now playing: Enslaved - Fenris

Brilliant song, one of my all-time favourites. Especially the last three or so minutes are intense and beautiful.

On-topic: I haven't heard too much Graveland, but I really enjoy "The Celtic Winter". Raw black metal with nice synth work. Downloading some more of their stuff as we speak..

Well how else will you understand what he's saying?!

Immortal Pride>Creed of Iron>Thousand Swords>Memory and Destiny>Fire of Awakening>Raise your Sword>Celtic Winter>Raiders of Revenge> Everything Else

pretty good there, yea. let me try:

1. Following the Voice of Blood
2. Immortal Pride
3. Creed of Iron
4. Memory and Destiny (this one rules now)
5. The Fire of Awakening
6. Thousand Swords
7. Raise Your Sword
8. Raiders of Revenge
9. The Celtic Winter
10. Carpathian Wolves
11. Blood of Heroes
12. Impaler's Wolves
13. Epilogue/In the Glare of Burning Churches

Still waiting for Dawn of iron Blades, dammit. But I'm in Graveland mode now.

've listened to Thousand Swords a bunch since this thread was created, and it has impressed me considerably. Following the Voice of Blood still rules, though.

Didn't you find the synth to be little cheesy, perhaps? I sure did.

On-topic: Meh, I have nothing to add...

Is it just me or does the drum sound on "Following the Voice of Blood" like, suck real bad, almost to the point of ruining the album?

Yeah, the drumming sucks but I can deal with that if it isn't so goddamn high in the mix.

Basically every single Graveland album that involves Capricornus has terrible, terrible drumming.

"In the Glare of Burning Churches" is just a really fucking bad album. Deal with it.

I've got it, and it is another solid album from Darken. Since Graveland is one of my faves, I try to be as truthful a critic as can be (yes, In the Glare of Burning Churches is bad, but is worth the price of purchase for the intro alone. Fact.), and over time, I haven't been impressed so much with Fire of Awakening or Dawn of Iron Blades (except the first song. Woah. Awesome.), but Fire CHariot of Destruction is A LOT more like a mix of Thousand Swords and Creed of Iron, two great albums in their own right.

In short, me likey the new Graveland very muchly right now.

anyone else have Fire Chariot of Destruction? "Prayer for My Ancestors" is one of his finest songs and one of the best of the year for me.

This album is soooooo much more violent sounding than the past couple.

EDIT: and it looks like he's up to his shenanigans again with a two page diatribe about WHite Wolves, chariots, blood, fire, death, swords, war, darkness.....
