He's a good guitarist, but not the most original guitarist around.

Best lead guitarist??? Eh. No-one plays leads anymore, and if there is a solo, it's only a few notes. Fuck that.

vinnie moore. yeh he's an insturmentalist, but his albums are great. every note seems like its in the perfect place, not so much fretboard masturbation/ showing off. he knows hes good, you know hes good, and he knows that you know hes good. he doesnt have to prove himself. and hes been around since the mid 80s. his top 3 albums:
the maze (2nd newest)
minds eye(first)
defying gravity(newest)
-neal

chcuk and jeff
does chuck not count though cause he's dead (gee, that sounds somewhat disrespectful. oy)?
do you mean favourite at the moment, like you are really digging bodom now so you think Laiho owns, or do you mean someone who's still around?
Cause out of who i'm digging right noe, its Chuck(Schuldiner) and Jeff(Loomis).

I think kk and glenn have the best guitar solos going today.
they fuckin get me frantic!!!! also another of my fave guitarists
is david t chastain. i cant speak on any recent works from him, but his old shit rocks.for those who dare and within the heat both contain excellent git work imo. im looking forward to hearing children of bodom.-- heavymetalguitarsuptothemorforkinlimit--

I've gotta say that besides In Flames and Nevermore, i don't enjoy leads in other metal bands that much (recent metal bands that is). Leads are just wanking most of the time, i mean can some one honestly tell me a death metal band (not a melodic one, just straight forward death metal) that has a good lead player? In death metal they all just sound like Slayer leads, which isn't a good thing at all. Oh, there is one death metal band i know of with good leads, Death, but thats where my knowledge of tasteful death metal lead playing ends.

You need to check out James Murphy's playing in the 2nd Obituary CD.
But yeah, for the most part, I agree that death lead players are lacking.

Speaking of LEAD guitaristts>>>> Does jeff do ALL of the leads on Poe??>>> Or is Pat around for some of them...??

Is there any CANNIBAL CORPSE stuff with awesome guitaring to check out? I've only heard a few songs (pounded into dust... sentenced to burn....)...??

Wow......... Buzzz.......

now talking as a listener not as a musician i love the soli (and it is soli and not solos ;) ) from terria cd by devin townsend. it's not that hard to play, but did you listen to deep peace? that three minute part of leadguitars? amazing!
