Greatest Rock Bands Of All Time?

I'm not treating those artists as all time-lows or anything by the way,, since I believe that everything in music is relative to one's enjoyment of it, but still... I dunno.

well The Eagles represent rock music of that era, not pop, were actually musicians and song writers so Im not really sure where a disney propeled pop face and voice fits in that picture... but hey what would I know.

All in all The Eagles example worked out well for me, both showing responders to this tread can actually hear what rock is and that they dont like it as to be expected on a board that caters to the rock subgenres, hardrock, metal and prog.

congratulations :Smokin:

I think if I had been previously familiar with their work, I would've appreciated it more. But a lot of the blander meat and potatoes rock feels rather un-energetic and dated to me.Of course if you grew on their of music as a kid, then it's a no- brainer that they would mean a lot more to you.
It's true what they say: much of the music we're exposed to early on, stays with us through the years, cos it evokes memories, associated life experiences, and what not.

and WHY, I understand the difference between rock... hardrock... progressive rock... bluesrock... artrock(headmusic)... ect. and others here DO NOT... even though they can clearly hear the difference

There's a difference between rock subgenres? NO WAY.

yep... and one of them is just... "rock"... another "metal" and its subdivisions

you'll figure it out

you obviously or you wouldnt have started this thred three weeks after the "classic" rock thread where all the "greatest rock bands" WAS discussed... and countless programs on VHI... and countless polls in various music magazines... AND COMMON FUCKING KNOWLEDGE

Btw, can anyone recommend something like Magma; i.e. avant-prog with a warm, organic production of albums like Udu Wudu. I simply adore that record!:worship:

Their older stuff seems similiar to Zappa... who had an awesome rock band... around 1:30 he begins a rap sequence though so hard tellin...

Mahavishnu Orchestra II w/Ponty on violin, this goes through many rock modes so patience is a virtue

or perhaps try Lila's Dance... links are all there

Thats far from my favorite Mahavishnu song, I cant stand the vocal chant in it. Some of the music is good though, theres better.

Rock isn't dead after all, not after epic ROCK AND ROLL/DOO WOP/BOOGIE/ROCKABILLY REVIVAL DAY yesterday.

I'm not a big Eagles fan but they're definitely not one of the worst rock bands of all time, that's just silly.

Prince is multi-instrumentalist and a songwriter, but no one would seriously claim his music is anything but an advanced breed of pop. Not that the Eagles would ever be confused with an advanced breed of anything.
