Songs and bands that sounded great until you listened to them

I agree with the metallica thing, i just like some songs and not much. mop gets boring after some minutes and other songs of them as well.

Rage Against The Machine. I've never really listened to the radio or watched TV at all so around 15 after hearing loads of shit from people at school about how good they were I downloaded some.... I can't fucking stand them.

 I <3 Rage Against the Machine.

I remember the song Guerrilla Raido from playing tony hawks pro skater in like 2nd - 3rd grade.

and now hearing it today makes me happy =]

that and bring the noise by anthrax.

I've only heard what got played on the radio by them, but anybody that will get up there and shake it in "the establishments" face like that guy did gets props from me.

Only Hard Rock/Rap band that had talent. My favorite albums by them are their first two.

The first two are the only Rage albums worth listening to. I still only pop them on maybe once every two years. They don't have good replay value.

I like some songs on their third like Guerilla Radio and Calm Like A Bomb but Tom used WAY too many effects on that album.

Angus Young are the most overrated guitarists of all time.

I tell ya, I recently saw old live footage of AC/DC when they were starting out and that Angus could play, he was a natural. I dont think hes "overrated" at all, anyone I've ever known, likes him and accepts him for what he is and thats one awesome blues influenced hardrock lick shreader. That concert footage changed my view of him, as I was never a real big AC/DC person and never paid much attention to him. While not really diverse, when it came to peeling off licks, he easily blew away those that came before him in the field of blues structured hardrock. Rarely looks at the fretboard and just wails in a tastefull way. VHI Classics was rotating that film sometime last winter or spring, not sure what their playing these days. Worth a watch in my opinion, it changed my viewpoint.... alot

Tom Morello doesn't get that much praise at all. So I wouldn't say he's overrated.

Kurt Cobain is overrated. He's number 12 (or something like that) on Rolling Stones top 100.

Rolling Stone's listings of whos who are based on reader polls. Many people that may not have a musical bone in their body let alone know the difference between players, players with better talent and viruosos. RS also caters to all forms of music. So when they run a readers poll on whos the "greatest" the poll only reflects who listerners not the musically educated consider to be their favorites. Therefore it is a favorite listing not a talent based listing.

That said many of the greatest virousos over the years have not been responsible for some of the greatest music or involved in highly successful bands. While on the other hand many people that are just players with less than stunning abilities have come up with some truely great songs. Many of my favorite musicians are not at the top of their field but yet are great for the music they were involved with.
