Songs and bands that sounded great until you listened to them

Yea AC/DC sucked to the tune of 150 million record sales
Back in Black - 5th highest selling record in the US ...... ever

6 - platinum discs
3 - 2X platinum discs
1 - 3X platinum disc
1 - 4X platnium disc
3 - 5X platinum discs
1 - 6X platinum disc
1 - 7X platinum disc
1 - 22X platinum disc in the US (Back in Black)

Why ? Because they were fun rowdy music that people could connect with and have a good time

I always sorta of thought of them as the English equivelent to ZZ Top. Not saying they sounded the same, but just the heavy blues based good times rowdy music. People loved it.

** glad to see some are back on the who/what/when/where sucks kick again **

Forget the record sales, how about even Angus Young himself was once quoted saying "We've made the same album 12 times in a row" lol. They might have 1-2 songs I can tolerate but the shit all sounds the same, you gotta admit that. There isn't a whole lot of talent in that band.

Also, shorten up your posts they are getting annoying.

AC/DC had some great tunes. ZZ Top is nothing short of legendary though.

Yea, ZZ was a huge influence on me. Something about that blues boogie feel. They probably got a little long in the tooth during the 80's too, but still good times music. Another 3 piece power house

When you come right down to it, all three of those bands suck.

I came right down to it and found the opposite.

AC/DC are what they are, which is a great hard rock band that influenced millions of musicians. There's a certain charm in their sameness, but I wouldn't say all their stuff sounds exactly the same. And quite frankly if they changed their sound they wouldn't be AC/DC.

Also, to say there isn't much talent in the band is misguided. Angus Young is a phenominal guitarist and a brilliant showman, the man NEVER misses a note. And Bon Scott was one of the best rock singers in history.

I never really liked AC/DC. I guess if I grew up at the time they were big I might like them, but I never thought they were all that. They've sure made a name for themselves though, gotta admit that.

I can't stand Smashing Pumpkins. I hear them being brought up once in awhile still. I guess he's still releasing albums. After all this time I thought they had faded into obscurity, but I was wrong.

@ horntoe - exactly AC/DC was unto themselfs and they just connected with millions of people that were into fun rowdy music. I was never a fan, dont own a single record but I had no problem accepting what they were about. Angus is legendary and for damn good reason so I have just recently discovered never having been a fan I never paid much attention.

I know this, if you locked me in a room and played at high volumns - Kiss or Foreigner or Blind Faith or The Doors or the Beatles within 5 minutes I would find a way to either destroy the speakers or put myself out of my misery.... If you did the same and cranked out AC/DC and ZZ you could come in hours later and find me happily boppin around the floor with a smile on my face.

@JHJ I had severe problems with the pumkin heads too. back around 93 I bought their recent tape at the advise of a young college guy. Music had just made the big change and I wasnt feeling it. So I asked him what would you recommend, I need to find a way to understand this new direction in music ? So away I went with this tape and it made me sick, thinking there was something wrong with me I listened to it over and over trying to get into it.... within weeks I was tuning into country radio when I was tired of my old tapes.

Yeah, Angus is excellent! You must have never listened to them to claim they are talentless.

I agree Angus Young and Bon Scott are very good musicians but i can't tell if tey are misguided because I have heard very little of their newest material.

Master of Puppets was/is a very good album. It opened up a lot of musical ideas for heavy/thrash/bands, and probably others. It was a very influential metal album. However, influential does NOT mean good/great. In being honest and of course this being my opinion, the songwriting was good, not phenominal. The vocals are average. And the musicianship also average. Strong rythm guitar work, good bass playing, but here for me it gets weak, the drumming for a "huge" metal band at the time is just fuckin' below average. Listen to the album again, Ulrich could have been more creative in his fills and rolls. Hammet displays a decent talent on guitar, but completely over uses the "whammy bar" on this. Decent leads at times, but IMO, uses the bar to cover up his inadequacies as a real player. All that said, I still listen to it every now and then. In 1984 "MOP" was a shot in the arm. People wanted metal to be muscular and thick, and this album succeeded in doing that. People stood up and took notice. "Ride the Lightening" was a better album musically.
