Growls and Screams

This is my growling without any effects and EQ. But there is one exception: I need something to make my growls sound louder. Because my growling isn't much louder than whispering.

Is this normal?

Important question to Dan: Do the growlers you work with sing loudly? Are the growls as loud as screams or are they closer to whispering like mine?

Just keep practicing and your growl will get louder with the time...that's the way it worked for me. I startet with whispering and now I can growl with full power. I think the volume of the growl varies with your style.
The way Dan is/was growling is really exhausting and your voice will fuck up very fast....and it sounds fukken brutal.

Mine is louder than talking and it can be strenuous.

All my "Louder than talking" growls give me a headache after about a half hour. My throat'll hurt a bit, but not much. Usually, if I need to backing growl for a show, I'll warm up before hand, or growl a lot the day(s) before. My growls are much better that way.

You're "supposed" to do the growls in a quiet voice - microphones can always bring the volume up without straining your voice!

But it is true, Dan's growl, while apparently bad for your throat, does indeed sound "fukking brutal".

I experienced some development in the last 6 months.
Now I'm able to growls almost anytime when I want to.
And I'm still able to growl even right after drinking something or coughing. This wasn't possible for me 4 months ago. But the volume stayed the same (or only little improvements)

I'm forced to do that if I join a band in autumn. But somehow this doesn't satisfy me.
