Sorry for crappy drum sound (I don't use superior or something like that because I prefer deal with real drum, but for this clip below I drumagoged my midi files) and mix. It's only for hear diference between 2 editing technics...

I think they both fade out a little too quickly.

I vote for standard editing.
Sidechaining might work in some cases, but manual editing will let you humanize it slightly, and adjust it perfectly to your needs.

But in the end, it depends on the player, what effect you really want, and your deadline.
