Guitar Tone on Purgatory Afterglow

This is a question for Mr. Dan Swano.

I am assuming that you used a HM-2 pedal on this album? Could you give me a hint as to how you set the knobs to get the crunch and clarity? I'm sure part comes in with production, but I have tried, yet all I get is crunch, which is cool, but I need clarity as well.

the sound was made using a small practise amp I got from somewhere...it had the same color code as the HM2 and a few more buttons but the distortion sounded just as fucked up...so we used the headphone out and plugged it in to the Yamaha amps we used at the time and got that (To me..today...absolutely horrible) sound. Don´t try it at home
