Guitar Tone

i dont have the pedal, but if you could send me a recording, that would be great! could you do that or do you not have anything to record with (like me)?

i think that theyre both very similar... but the GT-8 sounds better in reviews.
i dont really like the marshall tone that much, even though i have a marshall amp myself. a rubbish one though. MG250DFX. loud, distortion sucks though. enter zoom 505II. its good, but not perfect.

I've been searching eBay for a Gt6, and I really have a smaller budget to work with than I had thought. What do you think would be a good price of a Gt-6, I can't find any past auctions and I'm not sure whether or not it would be a good idea to bid. I don't really want to wait and see the outcome, because that would require me not getting the merchandise I want.

Also, as far as amps go, don't reccomend me an amp that will cost me 700 dollars, I was searching for laneys and even on ebay they're 750. I'd rather pass on the effects processor and get a 500 dollar amp.

I paid 200 something on Ebay for a GT-6. It was a really good deal because it was brand new and way more expensive at Guitar Center (I forgot how much). I'll try to see if I can figure out how much exactly I paid for it on eBay. I bought it last year so it's not even showing up on "My eBay" anymore.

haha ive got a spider II 210 (dual 60 Watt stereo) id sell ya.. i love my line 6.. but i cant seem to get the tones i want... i really want the disto of the line 6 but my gt6 overrides it.. Ive just recently found some nice disto tones, but i really prefer the disto of the amp. Cleans aren't the best on the line 6 tho.. so if u want clean i would try other amps.

I have the means to record, but I'm pretty lazy. Maybe I'll record a riff or two from Morningrise later.
k thanks if u can. im lazy too, but i would love to have something to record with, and i would use it whenever possible! hmmmm that boss micro BR looks pretty good...
anyway, this is going away from the point of the thread.
Sandrothecoolman, you should try to get a Laney head. the GH50L is a great option, but it only has one channel, which can either be clean or distorted.
if you want a separate channel (2 channel) head, then you could get the VH100R. very good for metal.
if you can't get a head, which you may not, then a good idea may be the GT-6/GT-8. but you need their settings to get their sound. and i dont know if very many people know that. except maybe FRUGi HOYi.
if you cant get this or dont know the settings or dont try it out for yourself or dont like it, then the Line 6 Uber Metal pedal sounds like it can get Opeth well from reviews. it sounds different from the line 6 spider distortion, apparently MUCH better.
HOPE THIS HELPS!

Well is there any point in getting just a head if it's all I'd play out of? Because if I were to buy the head it'd be all that I play out of, by the way, how much do you think that'd cost me?

if you just get a head, you wont be able to play out of it without a cab. the head (a GH50L) costs around £399 new, but secondhand on ebay they are less than half that. and ive hear that the older the better for them, but a new one would sound almost as good.

Well I don't have a cab, all I have is a fucking Gorilla TC-35 50 watt amp. It's probably not even 50 watts, that's just what it says on the back.

most important thing in opeth's sound is mids and not using too much gain. i'd say insane on line6 stuff is too much. i think on some of their albums they use next to no gain and record the guitar track 4 times to make it beefy.

i think opeth get distortion from the amp. they use gt8 for effects. but i'm not sure actually:) cause my friend have a gt8 and the distortion doesn't make content.. peavey, laney, mesa boogie amps have great distorted sounds
