Guitars?

EMG. Some of the best pickups. I use EMG. Anyway, an 8-string is too much for me hehe. On an 8-string the neck is not a neck anymore.... it's a monster!

I personally am a Ibanez whore. I have an RG-220B, which sucks. I am hoping to upgrade to an RGA121 later this year, or I might save up a bit longer for a PGM301.

My RG520QS rules. I picked it up used at Music-Go-Round. Somebody stripped the paint and refinished it with oil. It's sick as hell with the quilted top and the dark brown of the woods (sapele top and mahogany back) comes through wicked cool. And it plays like a dream (though the selector switch needs replacing).

Just cause it's EMG doesn't make it automatically good. I own a guitar with EMG's but I've played others with them that sound horrid.

That's right, but only in if you try passive pickups. They suck. Have never tried an EMG active pickup system, which not sounded great.

Fair enough. I've run into many folks who jumped on the anti-Jackson bandwagon as soon as fender bought them out and all the big name endorsees jumped ship. The USA/Custom models I've played since the buyout seem to be of similar quality as the older ones I've played. That being said, it's been a long time since Jackson's have appealed to me ( I still own an old DX10 that was my first guitar and a King V) so it isn't as though I've done extensive research/playing tests between the two.

That's awesome about the Jems though.....did you sell them or did the leave your posession against your will? I agree about the Breedloves 100%. The store I worked at back home was a Breedlove dealer and I couldn't keep my hands off of them when I worked night shifts and business was slow.

As far as the new Jem (or any Jem for that matter), I agree that they are way overpriced. I only have mine because I got a killer deal on mine following a major fuck-up at the guitar shop and something about it just sat perfectly with me, I could never part with it. Otherwise I would have saved a little extra and gotten my EBMM back then.

I won't bash blindly, unless it's related to Pain of Castration, I mean, Salvation....

My Jems, both. They left my posession against my will. I was unemployed, and was selling one to two a month trying to keep up with the bills. From what I've seen on E-bay, it won't be any time soon that I'll ever come close to getting them "replaced". I sure didn't lose any $'s on them, but they were all in really great shape, and it damn near killed me to part with them. Brand new jems are ridiculously over priced, IMO. I DO Have my eye on one of the 25th anniversary RG's though........

i play a japanese made jackson, fitted a seymour duncan JB and added a toggle switch to choose between different pickup wirings, 24 frets, s s h floyd rose, ive set all the intonation just right and the action is stupidly low with no buzz. nicest guitar ive ever played, i keep it nice and clean and polished, always keep a fresh set of 8s or 7s on it, never found a guitar that feels anywhere near as nice, but i think thats due to the hours ive spent perfecting the setup and how good i treat it!

Have thought about buying a 7-string Ibanez. Since I don't like play RG 7-strings it's a perfect news that Ibanez just have presented a 7-string S model. Consider to replace the pickups with DiMarzio's. Anyone who has any recommendations for 7-string pickups????

they make 7's? since when? my guitars are all 9 or 10 guage.

I like the S Series also. It has 22 frets, but does 24 frets really matter? I never use the 23rd and 24th frets, but I remember someone saying that there is less room too move on a 22 rather than a 24, is this true?

I find I use the 23rd and 24th frets every now and then, so they come in handy. In the song I'm playing for my cousins wedding I bend up the 21st fret and hammer onto the 23rd fret, essentially playing the 25th fret, but this would be impossible on a 22 fret guitar...

The 20th anniversary RG's are definitely worth looking at. I think the only thing that they are doing different from the original is putting the AANJ on it (but I'm not actually positive they are doing that).....they are even putting the original edge trem. on it. Sorry to hear about the Jem situation. If you are interested in selling a kidney and perhaps your firstborn, you might be able to get one used in nice condition. On the subject of Ibanez though....I don't know about you but I'm actually really pleased with this year's line-up...for the most part that is. I like what they've been doing with the S series (such as allowing me to add another S series seven string to my collection) and I like that they are starting to finally add some variety to their lineup rather than having 40 different RG models each in a different shade of black and a few overpriced sig. models. Overall though I think my Ibanez phase has passed.

On a side note......It's great that SX has a forum moderator who is representing the band in a mature and respectable way by A) bashing their peers and B) doing so in a completely uncalled for and out of context manner.
