Guitars?

I wouldn't hold your breath too long. Your only hope is if they do end up doing a Herman Li signature model (based on the specs he posted over on jemsite a while back when asked what his ideal signature model would be). Shawn Lane had a 24 fret S-series that was custom made for him.....but to my knowledge that's the only one in existence.

Wow, so if I had a chance to get a free custom Ibanez, they would be willing to make a 24 fret S?

lol sadly, the answer would probably still be no. Ibanez has a few different levels of endorsement deals and only the highest "level" (guys like vai, satch, etc.) get's unrestricted access to guitars from them. Everyone else basically just gets upgraded versions of stock models (different finishes, pickups, etc.). However, if you are in fact someone in a famous band, you might have a shot.

Hey J-Dub but you did sit thru a Pain of Castration oops Salvation set at PP with Alex right??? correct me if i'm wrong :heh:

Yep... hoping that one of these appearances, I'd "get" why so many people
seem to like them. Haven't figured it out yet, even though I give them 3 songs at every performance. Which is why I laughed when I was castigated by Mr. Meedleyx10. Even more funny, is the fact that I didn't bash PoS at all, only said that the only thing I would blindly bash is PoS, I haven't had a good PoS tirade in a long time. No new material coming over from that side of the pond lately. Scarsick has some good musical arrangements on it, but it's still contains everything I dislike about the band. Eventually, Meedleyx10 will understand that the lemmings & I just agree to disagree, and except for the unprovoked attack at Prog Power , we can, and DO, peacefully co-exist.
Way to bait the PoS troll (me) Flavio! :D

Damn, well, I guess Herman Li is my only hope. But he is famouse enough. Why can't he make a signature?

Maybe he can, I'm not sure exactly what his status is with Ibanez. I would assume that if Ibanez really thought he could sell their product they would have jumped on giving him a signature model by now, but who knows. Never hurts to hope though!

I was using Dean Markley Custom Lights, which were something like 9-46, which lasted for ages, now I've got D'Addario 9-46 on there, but they sound like crap, so I think I'll either try the Elixers or go back to Dean Markley... I really need a heaps custom gauge with something like 9-49...

24 frets. 12 frets = octave. 24 = 12 x 2. it's pretty damn obvious why someone would want 24. complete the octave.

What I think 24 frets are for, is that when you tune down a whole step, you gain 2 notes that you wouldn't get when you downtune a 22 fret guitar (in which case you'll lose the 2 highest notes you had on standard tuning).

I could be wrong though...

i'd argue that although that is true, you are wrong in the traditional sense that 24 frets were popular before downtuning. the initial purpose of 24 frets, as i said, was to complete the octave, so that the open strings (in standard tuning case E) would reside at the top and bottom. in this way, you've got the complete octave and as such, when you play up there, you can play the highest note IN KEY. regardless of what kind of scale we are talking (major, minor, etc) the tonic is always a part of the key. in this case, the tonic is the highest note possible and that to me is always a good thing when, for example, you want to resolve UP in a 7-8 interval. with 22 frets, you're stuck with D, for example.

It... is.....?

I meant just as I wrote it. *I* built a custom guitar. ME. Yo. Only bought parts and a block of mahogany. The rest I did with handtools in a local guitarmaker (and physics teacher)'s shop. The result: a truly 100% custom guitar.

Sorry, I misunderstood your plain english... That's awesome! Now you know your guitar is truly unique! Good work mate!
