i say no. in fact, i prefer RRF.

Seems like the 'it sounds like hatebreeder' stuff was hype or something. I mean its a great record of course, because COB is the shit. But doesn't sound like the old stuff really at all to me

Obviously it doesn't sound like Hatebreeder. They use different gear now.
But it is reminiscent of the old days. That is what people mean.

It's pretty different to the old albums, yes, but it's still just as good as them (or at least nearly so). By FAR the best album since HCDR.

I think it has that chill vibe of FTR, the sharp and crunchy sound of RRF and also a very powerful sound like AYDY. I think each soundworld is created to best suit the compositions at hand. Surely in terms of how great ANY of the instruments sounds like, COB's not the world's best, as they're designed for fast music, but it's probably hard to make their sound better with the given albums. I would like more punch and echo for Hatebreeder, I would like lots more atmosphere from echo to HCDR, I'd like AYDY with louder synths, quieter drums and louder lead guitars... I would go as far as to say Halo of Blood is the first time they got the soundworld perfect for the given composition, only thing I'd add is a touch more sharpness and echo to the lead guitar. One element I think COB should use more is choir backgrounds instead of string backgrounds, create more characteristic keyboard backgrounds; they don't have to be that high mixed but they could be more prominent.

Yes, I agree but I wouldn't add more sharpness to the guitar tone, as it's quite bright to begin with.

I'd like the lead tone to be from either hatebreeder or HCDR, I think the solos sound amazing on those albums.

I do think Bodom's guitar sound lacks character, it sounds colorless and dry sometimes. I don't have any illusions regarding that. What they do with the sounds definitely isn't what they're about. They're about the compositions. For sure sometimes they sound just right, even the keys are often great sounds created for one purpose of one song, but sometimes even they are factory ready string sounds etc, it really depends how ambitious and passionate they are about given song parts. Sometimes it's hard to create that vibe and atmosphere just right. Nevertheless, I think it would sound wrong if you could swap the soundworlds of the albums. Don't mind me, I'm all against thrash sound and all about the climatic & atmospheric sound. At the end of the day of course it's not about what toys you have, it's how you use them.

HOB got too sharp guitar tone. I really like all the old albums as they are. But HOB is their best since HCDR, no question about it.
