Happy Dimebag Darrel Died Day!

Phil Anselmo is a power metal god #2 if you cant see that turkey, you have never ever been on stage and screamed your lungs out for some process/factory workers.

Right, but overnight he stopped being a power metal singer and became a raspy steroid guy with throat cancer.

I'm well aware how hard Pantera's shitty vocals were for him, especially later albums. And he was pretty good live. But that doesn't mean I have to like the way he sounds. Shit, his "harsh" vocals are worse than a lot of metalcore guys.

And this is coming from a guy who grew up with Pantera, and would never have learned to play a guitar solo or even palm mute without Bodybag Darrel.

Am I seriously the only one on this thread that's gonna defend Pantera? Dime was kickass for what he did. CFH was golden (thank you shadows), and var I'm guessing that if you don't like melodrama in the lyrics, you of course must absolutely loathe just about every nevermore album besides PoE... Pantera had awesome tunes. Far Beyond Driven was fantastic. Slaughtered? Strength Beyond Strength? I'm Broken? 25 years? If they weren't groovy as shit, they were pretty fucking heavy for a band getting a #1 album on the billboards in 94'.

Even though I don't like Pantera or their sludgey groove stuff, I listened to Cowboys From Hell yesterday and it is a great album. Phil's vocals on it are a great mix of power metal, harsh vocals, and clean melodies. Not to forget Dime made that album a classic with all those memorable riffs and solos.

Well I like Pantera, I have respect for them as a band and for Dimebag, and not just because I'm from the same town. Just really tired of this same discussion every year on the anniversary. That's why I hadn't said anything...til now, oops!

lol fail :p

tbh it seems to have been quiet the past two years, although i wasn't on Facebook those last two years, there where a few updates this year but nothing that was really discussed, why is this an anual thing on this forum?

This makes me want to bump some threads!

It has been quieter overall, in fact I was thinking "hmm maybe no one will make a thread this year afterall!" because they always turn out the same way. As you can see, the only thread made about it this year was out of sarcasm. I think those that really care have gotten the hint that there's no point, just pay your respects or whatever silently.

all this. pantera held it down the whole time, even when metal was dead completely they were cranking out their most abrasive shit and were still topping the charts because they were the only big metal band that had the balls to keep doing their thing. FBD fucking 6th grade, I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I still play that album at least once every three months.

I try not to say gay shit very often, but the guitar tone on FBD gives me homoboners every time I hear it.

When was it that metal was dead?

I like Pantera well enough but the only album I consider worth owning is Trendkill. I guess I don't have any feelings about Dimebag as I didn't know him personally and he had ceased to produce art that interested me well before his passing. My only feelings about the situation at all are a vague sort of disappointment in our society that crazy wasn't given help in the many years of obvious mental illness leading up to him becoming another body on the toll that night.
