Have you ever been threated like a freak, because you are a Metalhead

People say I should I should cut my hair, mainly some girls (who want me... heh), and try to make me into a conformer...
I always complain there are not enough long haired guys! So, plsss.. dont cut your hair! :headbang:

yeah. get shit every so often by people who think it's strange I want to wear black/fucked clothes and listen to metal and have long hair. Never got beaten up because of it though, so...

Do get the "look down upon him, for he is scum" treatment by some shop assistants and a few other people, but hey, fucke em.

Apart from that don't really care, the only comment that really riled me was a bunch of my flatmates friends.

While sitting in the living room of my house he decided to tell me that "I used to listen to metal, but now I've grown up and listen to more challenging mature stuff". Yes. The kind of mature challenging stuff you cannot enjoy with a cocktail of LSD/Ecstacy and Dope. I think I'll pass...

I've heard that a number of times... it's like WTF do I want to grow up and be old for?

Life is too short to be serious.

So you think stereotype of "metalhead" is stupid and noisy?!?! Where the fuck you have found that kind of stereotype? Those "metalheads" who are my friends, are mostly good in school and quiet guys.

That´s exactly the same I would say... Cheers mate!

And yeah, what the fuck!!!? :( Me, my friends and all metalheads I know are quiet guys, and pretty smart and intelligent. Especially compared to the other mortals in this toilet earth!

I very rarely get looks or comments even though I occassionally dress very extreme. I think some people are put off by my large size though I still get the odd comment - which I just ignore. OR stop and without looking at them start walking towards them, they soon get the idea.

However sometimes I dress specifically for shocks cause I find it amusing. I think I recounted my tale of being dressed as the crow somewhere here before.

i cop lots of shit from my mates who are all into rap or punk. just general payouts and stuff, and them making stupid growling noises while saying things like "eat babies and rape grannies and burn churches.. raaaaahh!"
ignorant fools. i pity mere mortals :)

but i dont look like a metalhead, my hair isnt that long yet and i dont wear metal shirts all the time. just sometimes, so when i tell people i like metal they are usually shocked.

same here... fortunately my collegues are already used to listen my music during the day:) sometimess they make funny comments on their voices or playing skills.. but thats all .

I can remember that back in school people used to be really surprised that i was a heavy metal fan, simply because my parents are intelligent people in decent jobs. they all assumed they knew me and could tell what i was like simply 'cos i lived in an area of glasgow not as run down as the rest of them. it always pissed me off. it's like everyone seems to assume i know everything, simply because i'm smarter than most people round here. it's really annoying!!!!

Well... I've always been a loner type... so I've been treated like a freak for a long time. Doesn't help that I wear black all the time either. I get the "do you have any other color clothes" thing alot.
I'm clean cut, though. I have a day job... so... otherwise I would grow my hair out.
But I never did care what others thought of me... and I never will. And that is a true statement. I don't care, plain and simple. I'm not out to please anyone. I am what I am, and I will stay what I am. If people choose to forsake me for that... then so be it. I'll be seeing them on the outside one day.

Soultorn: *thumbs up* that's a mentality i've always tried to maintain. not sure how well i do, though.

Mocika: If someones asks my why i like metal or dress the way i do i normally just tell them "'cos i like it/i want to". I've never seen any reason to tell them why i like metal, unless they're willing to tell me why they like fashion or all the pop shit.

I never explain what I am to anyone. No one would understand. I just never cared. How else could I have remained single for all but a month of all my years? Plenty of girls could be attracted to me... but the aura I portray is scary to them.
Oh well. Sluts.

I've never been treated like a freak because of the music I listen to, I have been treated like a freak because of other reasons though... mainly cuz people think I am a freak... and they could be right of course... actually, I think they are right. But it's not because of the music.

When I get to know people, they're mostly surprised when they find out what music I like. I am quiet, shy, don't take up a lot of space (ie most people have a tendency to forget that I'm in the room...kinda annoying), dress in pretty much "regular" clothes (although I wear a lot of black), and don't copy Marilyn Manson with my make up (in fact, I rarely use that shit). So I'm not a metalhead stereotype in other people's opinion...

I have gotten comments like "how can you listen to that? why do you like it?" and it's annoying to explain... I mean, they don't ask the BSB fans that... oh well.

Well said, Soultorn..I'm the same way. I'm me..if you like it, cool. If not, uh, too bad for you, because I'm still going to be me, regardless. To thine own self be true..

There is a reason why people don't ask BSB fans why they like there 'music': It's because everybody know these fans would just stare at them and ask what they mean by that question.

As for being a freak, I know I am a freak in the eyes of some people, but I don't care about the opinion of those people.
The most annoying is that they just won't believe me when I say that i like this kind of music. Fools they are.

Maybe I should try that... just stare and ask what they mean! But when people tell me... "how can you listen to that? it's masculine music" -- WTF is masculine music????? cuz it's played by men mostly? that's just stupid... or "metal is so unpersonal" --oh yeah, and pop isn't?
You're right, they're fools...

I see your point and I agree but do u say this to the ppl whom you are in everyday contact with?
From outside ppl see me as a quiet, optimistic person. I dress normally so when they find out i like metal they are surprised. And well... i always try to explain what is good in this music:) Of course my first answer is 'because i like it'. Many ppl still have too prejudice with metal and every time 'i have the chance to open up their eyes' i try it  no, im not a social worker and in fact i try to keep myself away from ignorant ppl ;)
