In My Kingdom Cold
This is an idea from the debates last night on whether health care is one of these three. What do you all think? I'll share my piece shortly.

I'm still on the fence about this. I think certain things should certainly be rights (Going to whichever doctor you want no questions asked, etc) but other things I'm not so sure (like certain surgeries if they aren't really necessary)

It should be a right, because the government is not out to profit by it, unlike private insurers and doctors who only care for those who have the financial "privilege" to afford it.

Historically, when did the idea that someone other than you should pay for your own health care?

It doesn't seem to me like free or cheap health care should ever be a right. I think this entitlement mindset (in many areas, not just health care) only weakens our country.

I do think we should try to make health care available for those who cannot afford it, but for the most part it should be like clinics and whatnot. Maybe doctors could be required or encouraged to give some time to these places. But I don't think that Joe Welfare is entitled to the same health care as Jim Engineer who works hard and pays for a portion of his own health care.

Why anyone would want the Gov't meddling in more shit than they already are blows my mind. People need to man the fuck up and take care of their own shit and stop wanting to be baby-sat by a government. Pure fucking laziness and lack of responsibility on an individual level.
Is the current system flawed and in need of a fix? Sure. But since when did Bureaucratic interference and oversight ever make any situation anything but worse in the long run?

In the debate last night, Obama explained that under his proposed health care plan, those who already have good healthcare they would rather keep WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP IT. Others would receive government assistance. Conversely, under McCain's SHITTY FAILURE PLAN, a 5,000 dollar credit would be given to most people...which would then be TAXED LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER until it's paid back double. Do you want that?

I kinda zoned out during his entire Health Care thing, but I remember the part about pooling a bunch of money together and using that as the fund. Would there be any sort of government subsidy for people who keep their own health care, or would you have to qualify for government assistance? I would assume it's the latter

And isn't it true that the $5,000 credit actually goes straight to the insurance companies and not the people?

They are both shitty plans and neither candidate should be allowed anywhere near the oval office anyway. When the "Government" pays for something that really just means the working American pays for it, since Government does not produce. I'm against every single socialistic program this country does run and will run and Government sibsidized healthcare is no different.

I have yet to see the debate, but I have it taped.

Obama's plan seems odd. So you could either pay for part of your health care and have your employer pay the other portion, or you can get it free from the Government? If those options are available, I think companies will be very likely to stop offering it. That is still heading in the direction of a fully socialized health care system.

I'd have to look closer at the McCain plan to see how it really works. I don't think I have enough info to make a decision based on your statements, cleverly injected with your opinions.

Not that my "liberally biased" explanation of this is going to mean much to you, but all McCain seems to be proposing is just throwing more money at people to support out current system, which is utterly failing (we're already spending $7500 per person per year on health care, and costs are projected to rise 6.7% per year for at least the next ten years).

If we don't switch over to universal health care soon, health care is going to become a luxury that only a minority of the population can afford. Either that or our government adds 2 trillion dollars per year to our national debt making Medicaid and Medicare payouts, and eventually goes bankrupt.
