can someone please make a list of all these promises that were supposedly broken? all these lies?

idunno what the fuck proulxski is even complaining about...

yeah there have been a lot of delays, a lot of things that didn't materialize... but this is the music industry, things never go as planned, and for a band who takes their music seriously, like symphony x does, you can expect they are going to make some sacrifices to make sure they do it the way they want to.

1) The people running the bands internet presence have NOTHING to gain by witholding information. If "we" are out of the loop, that's a decision higher up the food chain. With the way the tourdates were handled, venues annoucing before any body else did, it made me expect this kind of circus once the album leaked. By announcing ANYTHING outside what management dictates,
is driving a nail in "our" coffin as far as any relationship with the band & its management.

3) If you are expecting some kind of announcement because of all this whining and urine stained teenage angst, don't hold your breath. I see this SAME shit happen with every single release. Certain factions acting like spoiled children who got the wrong toy in their happy meal. On second thought PLEASE go ahead and hold your breath, for as long as it takes.

4) The band owes you NOTHING. If you can't handle it. Please leave, or violate some rules so I can slam the door on your ass. If you think about it this way, then you won't be disappointed when news/info/etc. DOES come down the pipe.

1. The decision to release or not release information is no higher up the food chain than the band itself. This is the BAND'S website, they can post whatever they want. I'm not sure what warped image of record labels and managment personel some people have here. Management works for the band, and not the other way around. Managment are advisors - but their decisions are always subject to approval by the band, and they can get fired at any moment. Record labels exist to release your album and approve its contents. However, the band's communication with fans and presentation of infomation is by no means restricted. A band is only bound to the record label by the terms of their contract, and guess what, no contract will ever, EVER have any terms in it that control the artist's actions. The most they can do is threaten to not release an album or drop the artist if they do not approve of the music or the bands public actions (which would have to be, like, Mayhem level to warrent any real attention). For the most part, though, labels let artists be artists, and do what they want, and that includes the way they associate with and communicate with fans. Its the record label execs that sit behind a desk who don't have the outgoing personalities and charisma - those guys are never going to be telling Prince how to act - they signed Prince because he's a good showman and public figure without guidence. Mike Portnoy posts updates all the time and speaks very frankly about things. Steve Vai does the same. Do you think that Symphony X is in any different situation? Do you actually think that Mike and Steve have to get permission to talk about what they are doing with THEIR music? I'm sorry but if you are pissed about the lack of attention to this wesbite and the fans regarding updates, etc, you can only blame one source - the band. And honestly, it is their fault that this forum has been a barren wasteland of uselessness for years. It takes TWO seconds to post an update, even a useless couple of sentences to touch base. How hard is it to post a few pics or videos for the fans while working the album. Artists DO NOT work 24/7 on an album - there is always time for the other tasks that complete the package. And if an artist doesn't know how to update a wesbite or post video clips, he should frickin learn! It's not rocket science.

3. No one is looking for an announcement or apology or anything like that, this is a forum! People are expressing their opinions, that is the ONLY purpose of a forum. People have every right to express their opinions here - trying to undermine their motivation is ridiculous. No one here needs any more motivation or rationale other than just wanting to express their opinion. Ya know, we figured that whole thing out quite some time ago with the whole freedom of speech and right to free assembly thing.

4. The band owes us EVERYTHING you jackass! That's the way it works, otherwise they don't get to be a signed, touring, album-releasing band. It's like assuming a car manufacturer owes its customers nothing. You know exactly how customer service works and how much emphasis successful businesses put on customer satisfaction. That's because without customers, you don't HAVE a business. If no one buys your product, you can't sustain continued production of it. And it's no different with a band, they aren't magically exempt because they happen to be selling music. Without fans the band doesn't survive, and like it or not, there is MORE than just music that goes into allowing a band to thrive. Remember, Brittney Spears makes gobs more money and sells far more records than Symphony X, shall we argue that her music is preportionally that much better? Do you think, if Symphony X were not a successful, well known band that MJR could walk into Caprision and they'd just be like 'wow, you're good, here's a custom line of guitars just because you're good!'. He gets that because to them he is a walking advertisement, and who is the advertisement for? US!! The fans who watch and play guitar and might, as a result, but a Caprision. Any band that thinks they don't owe the fans should sit in their basement and just play among themselves for fun. Once you enter the market place and expect people to PAY MONEY for your music - welcome to being a humble servant of the fans, just like any company is the servant of its customers.

I was expecting a sappy love story about how this dude's heart was broken. It sounds more like a case of brain-broken

It's 1 month man, chill

it's always one month, it was one month a year ago, and its one month now, tomorrow it will be one month as well, this album will always be coming out in one month, and never actually come out.

Hey, asshole, before you go and post a cliche'd pic, why don't you read the thread first?? you will have your answers...hell, just look at my posts alone in this thread...I list about 3 or 4 different ways in which the fans were "mistreated" by the band, management and the web staff during the recording/production of this upcoming album...

They can do whatever the fuck they want. They could release PL in 3 years if they wanted. It's their show. You're just a spectator. You can leave whenever you want.

If you feel mistreated by the management and want to tell them, there's probably some email address you could mail to. This board is a place for fans of the band not assholes posting shit about them.

Is the overall opinion that InsideOut is the root of all evil in this case?? From what I gather there was a severe lack of communication between them and the band, which is obviously going to cause problems.

*Mike Lepond didnt know he shouldnt have done the interview
*Tour details seemed to be announced before the band even knew about it
*Official sound clips were released before the band knew anything about it.
*The CD cover was accepted as official by IO while at the same time mjr said it wasnt.

The list could go on forever.

IO isn't necessarily the root of all evil, but suffice it to say that there is WAY more going on behind the scenes than any of you know. We do what we're told to do, and in return we're the ones that look like the assholes. Oh well, so be it; the day I let myself be bothered by what some anonymous internet person thinks of me is the day I'll get rid of my computer entirely, my main concern is doing my job the way MJR wants it done. But even he has been frustrated by the way this whole process has been handled by other entities, frankly..and yes, other people ARE involved in the release of information; it'd be much different if it actually were just the band's decisions to make, but there's management and multiple label heads and so on who have a say as well.

I gave you updates when I had them (sorry if they weren't good enough, but I've mentioned over and over that there are only so many ways to say 'they're writing' or 'they're recording'), the cover art was NOT official until just last week (and yes, there've been several changes to it since that first leak), and the tracklisting and cover art have been sent to the webmaster and will be announced here once she gets them on the site. Not sure what more 'studio updates' people expect, since they're clearly not in the studio anymore; I'll be unsticking that thread today.

If any of you don't like the way this place is run, feel free to leave..please. I don't let you flame each other, and I'm sure as hell not going to tolerate being called worthless and a liar in the place I work so hard to maintain.

End of thread. Let's settle down now, shall we?

Just wanted to make a couple comments to this post by Syxified My comments are in yellow…(and the thread will remain closed)

It’s not a Kingdom where the band is “King”, and dictates down to others. When a band signs on with management, it’s a business relationship. Sure, the “bad” ones can be easily fired/replaced, but good ones know what they are doing, and help bring a band to the next level of success. They are not infallible, however. It’s also the Manager’s job to take care of some of the mundane shit that the band doesn’t want to deal with anymore. It really differs from band to band. I am in no way implying fault in this case. There seems to be a communication breakdown somewhere along the line. NOBODY in the band is saying DON’T post this or that info, but I really wonder if someone said …”don’t worry, I’ll take care of it…” when it’s come down to doling out info to us. Somebody dropped the ball here, and the mods are at the lowest end of the food chain, and receive the most grief for it.

3. No one is looking for an announcement or apology or anything like that, this is a forum! People are expressing their opinions, that is the ONLY purpose of a forum. Of course everyone has a right to post their opinions! Don’t take it out of context! The one thing that’s missing from a few people is TACT. Proulxski’s rant had more in common with an 11 year old girl having her first period than any kind of meaningful dissertation because of his lack of tact. Not only is it an old subject that has been rehashed many times before, but the guy was being an absolute cock about it. As far as free speech/right to assembly goes, it doesn’t work like that on a private moderated forum. Just like you can’t verbally berate a judge in his court after he gives you the maximum fine on a ticket, you can’t come onto this forum and post/say whatever you want. There are rules/guidelines in place, if someone doesn’t like that (ie Proulxski’s hammer of law comment…) seriously, go post somewhere else. It’s THAT simple.

Ahhh, my favorite part of your post. Don’t take things out of context you moronic simp! (there, we’re even on the name calling…)

Perhaps I could have made myself more clear, Nobody else has taken issue with this, but you have, so let me try to clarify it for you.

The band owes you NOTHING is in regards to updates. Of course no successful band can exist without fans. Do you REALLY think I’m that stupid? I seriously doubt that in one of symphony x’s contracts have any obligation to post an update on what was worn to the studio, what kind of carry out they ordered, and how many takes it took to nail a solo. While some may find that kind of info interesting, it’s not a prerequisite, nor does any such contract dictate how much time a band must spend talking to fans after a show.

I don’t know how old/young you are, but I really don’t understand this sense of entitlement a lot of the younger folks have. As someone stated earlier in the thread, remember when updates weren’t nearly in real time, but you had to wait for a monthly magazine to come out? The basic business model is band makes music & records cd, fans like music and buy cds, band sees interest and tours, fans attend shows, and buy shit from the merch guy/gal. repeat from top. Anything fans gets on top of that, from updates to meet n’ greets, is icing on the cake. Before you take THIS out of context, I understand it’s WAY more complicated than that, and keeping fans up to date in this “gimmie it NOW” age also must also play a part. If you’d like to continue this further, please PM me, and we’ll take it off-forum.

Thanks,

John W
