Obviously you're never heard Wreath, unless you count the one faint clean line in a distorted heavy riff "mellow".

Wreath has a mellower part, what you on about? its just a matter of opinion to a certain extent. I find the grinding riffs in Blackwater park WAY heavier than some of the airy riffs in Wreath but thats just my opinion.....

Wreath is the heaviest song Opeth has written. Mike said it in an interview - he was asked why he decided to make a mellow album and a heavy album (Damnation and Deliverance), and he said that it was his friends Jonas' idea, and that the first song on the heavy album was the heaviest song he'd ever written.

That makes two votes for Karma.

I like that chick on the DVD, when Mikael is trying to surprise them. Hes like De-li-ver-( Chick screams out in "deliverance!!") -ance

lol

so why is blackwater park winning then?:D

I remember the first time I heard Master's Apprentices.

It was so heavy I shat myself. It also contains an awesome Akerfeldt-Wilson vocal harmony. It's both heavy and soft.

I agree Wreath is an extremely heavy song, but I find Blackwater Park even heavier, maybe because of the voice in some parts of the song.(For example when Mike says : lepers Coiled neath the treeeees, it seems that his voice was recorded twice to add more intensity there, and it worked !). Also, I find Blackwater Park better, which adds a point for it being extreme. I really like Wreath, but the riffs are a little bit repetitive.

I was torn between Blackwater Park and Karma, went with Blackwater Park because it is just so brutal sounding, yet brutal in a beautiful kind of way.

i am actually surprised that so many people think blackwater park is the heaviest opeth song. i was expecting people would go for wreath.

I went Deliverance.

I think dissonant main riff in that song is the heaviest PART of any Opeth song.
Others would have to be the outro to Deliverance, the part when Mikeal stops his lead and plays the riff.

Or the part in Ghost of Perdition when hes grunting out "Ghost of Perdition" and the guitars and bass drum are doing that fast bit.

I don't understand why people think Deliverance is heavy. Even Mikael thinks it is....most of it isn't at all.

YES. that fucking pwns.

Yeah I'm thinking maybe I shoulda gone Wreath.
