Heavy bands with (mostly) clean vocals?

It would be AWESOME if Scar symmetry quited the growls, even though they fit the music well, the clean vocals are amazing

This is a good idea for a thread because I'm in the same boat and can't find a lot without having to resort to powermetal.... or shit like Sevendust. Both of which I really like but I want NEW blood to my stash. So keep the hidden gems coming please.

Try Sonata Arctica. Their earlier stuff is more power metal and their newer stuff is more towards progressive metal. Try the albums Ecliptica, Winterheart's Guild and Reckoning Night first.

Fuck no man, really...
Their vocalist and vocal melodies are pretty good, but you have to stand insane amounts of cheesy 80's keyboards, horrible line 6 guitar sounds and really lame chord progressions all equalled in horrifying mess of gayness they dare to call metal... You're much better off to listening to Helloween if you like that kind of metal. Or maybe Queen for the vocals. Trust me.

Almost all Sakara Records bands except Diablo (Mokoma, Stam1na, Rytmihäiriö, Black Bile)

My Dying Bride (some growls, but mostly clean. Aaron's voice is an acquired taste, though. Much more "character" than chops.)
Sentenced
Katatonia
Theatre Of Tragedy
Beseech

March Hare :D But yeah...we all saw that one coming.
Darkwell is melodic death metal with female vocals, all clean. The live version of Realm of Darkness is great!
Pre-"Fallen" Evanescence. Check out the albums Evanescence and Origin. Actually not that bad.
Fountain of Tears. Another female fronted metal band, but great melodies and totally clean singing.
James LaBrie solo work. Pretty crushing music but still has that great LaBrie in the studio vibe to it. Elements of Persuassion is good.

An old bandmate of mine played me a Darkwell record some years ago and I remember liking it. For whatever that's worth.

OOOOH, Primordial's "To the Nameless Dead" - one of the few examples where I feel the "raw" production actually DOES heighten the emotional impact

Also, I've always loved Anathema's "Alternative 4"

Ack, really not a fan of Into Eternity, their genre shifts (or should I say wrenches) are way too jarring and annoying, and the clean vocals always irked me (though I guess I'd agree that they're not typically power metal, UNLIKE the guy from Control Denied, yechhhh)
