To date it's still my favorite (haven't heard Still Life yet but I'll bet it's phenominal coming right in between MAYH and BP). It was not only the first Opeth album I heard, but the first extreme metal album too, it opened up the door to most of the bands I like now. It took a long time for it to grow on me, but it was definately worth it.

The very same thing happened to me (I fell in love with Opeth's music one and a half year ago, after being able to put down the DT cd... )
I couldn't appreciate Orchid either, but I think it only needs some time - it's not an easy stuff after all...
But I started with Still Life. (Face of Melinda is still my favourite... )
