HELLRAISER, 8 STRING.

Check out Ihsahn's second solo album AngL, where he uses an 8-string guitar and it's not Meshuggah in any way :)

It's actually all 7-string though... When he recorded AngL he hadn't received his 8-string from Ibanez yet. He's got it now though, it's a pretty nice looking LACS custom.

I'm just getting my second 8-string, so yeah, I like them. That Hellraiser does nothing for me though. And a 26.5" scale? :Puke:

Looks cool, and I'd love to have one just for jamming on, but I really can't see myself seriously using it. My 7 string in B is more than heavy enough for my stuff. Or for any stuff for that matter. Djent is pretty much the only metal genre that has any need for going below B (Or possibly Bb). And even so, look at Meshuggah. Where they any less heavy when the where playing 7s? I didn't think so. Of course the 8s brought a new element to their music and it's great, but it didn't make THAT much of a difference since Bb is already damn low.

Also, Bulb is a good example. Alot of his songs in drop C sounds just as heavy (and Djenty) as anything, and that's just C.

If anyone has heard the excellent band 'God Among Insects', that's some 8 string metal that isn't djent. Except that they don't play 8 strings, they just tune a 6 string down to F I think. :p And that's straight up death metal, tuned a tritone below most other heavy-as-shit DM bands. How it sounds you can judge for yourself, my opinion though is that going from B to F doesn't make nearly as big of a difference as going form E to B. It does sound cool though!

EDIT: Back on topic, I would however kill for that V1 Apocalypse!

First off, the C8 has been out for a while now.....very old news. Sorry Jess, haha.

2ndly, for those that are tired of the black cherry finish (I'm VERY tired of it - I actually have never once thought it looked good, personally), a dealer on another forum has said they are shipping out black and white finished models of the C8 soon. Now...I already have an 8-string, but the HellRaiser is fucking tits and I wouldn't mind having a white one myself.

EDIT: Just checked the Schecter site and it is posted there as well on the C8's page that there will be black and white models in early June.

@blackneonbob
schecter produced a 4 or 5 string for some time...especially for us "can't play a solo for life" guys.

Yes, a 5-string baritone called the "Celloblaster":

30" scale so you can tune it to Zb and retain that tension with 9's  My 8-string is like 28.6" and that is almost too long for a guitar haha.

8 string guitars are for guys who just want to try to impress someone by saying they play an 8 string guitar. Reality is they play a one string guitar maybe two but not much more than that. There are a couple exceptions but not many.

i've been playing the ibanez 8 string now for more than 2 years, and i have to say : yes, at first your music will sound very very meshuggahhhh..

BUT no, that im thru with shugghish riffing, i found out, that 8 stringed chord voicings are extremely great for the music that we do.

also two handed tapping licks are sooo sweet to play on an extended instrument.

i specifically love the clean tone of my 8 string >> in combination with delay, it can alsmost sound like an in between bass and guitar. love that
!! AND could never live without my 8 string again.

but 8 is enough for me, will not move on to 9 10 11 string.

Too bad GAI sucks though

Hah, no way man they fucking slay. I would however say that the vocals on the first album are quite eh.....sub-par. :p

EDIT: To be frank, they aren't anything special on the second album either, but atleast it sounds like an actual growl, instead of just sounding like a flushing toilet!

Talking about Hellraisers, I have just received my Hellraiser C1 FR (EMG81/89), and pluged into the pod. I've noticed that I have to tweak drive and gain louder to get the same sound as in my Washburn (81/85), Ibanez (SH6) and Jackson (EMG81/85).

Is it normal to have less gain? Battery is ok, FR Bridge is ok...

Could it be that now I have 0.10-0.52 and I've been playing until now with 0.10-0.46?

I also noticed that low end is heavier and muddier, while presence and high frequencies are a bit low.

I'm a bit upset...:erk:

This is what I like about 8 strings...... This is what I would use one for...

but then again I have issues with 6 strings LOL

Not at all. I use all 8 as equally as I would all 6 on my 6-stringers and all 7 on my C7. With my 8 I play death metal usually, playing it mostly as a 7-string and occasionally using the low F# during really chuggy heavy parts. So :p

But I gotta agree that there are probably a good percentage of 8-string owners out there devoted to being a Meshuggah wannabe. However, your post is exactly what a million people said when 7-strings came out, yet now they are just as normal as a 6 these days. ;)

^ That is what I was thinking of when I first read this thread. Everyone was saying the same thing about 7's, but it was Korn that got the nod in place of Meshuggah...and like Meshuggah with the 8 strings, Korn was not the first band to use a 7 string though everyone thought so. I remember seeing 8 strings in a BC Rich catalog like 12 years ago, though I think it was more in mind of Jazz application than metal.
