Help with the softer side of metal..........

I'm a huge sucker for accoustic metal ballads -- or even accoustic ballads from other genres of music.

Other than that, some of my favorite non-accoustic metal ballads are:

Conception - "The Last Sunset"
Scanner - "Your Infallible Smile"
Stratovarius - "Coming Home"
Morgana Lefay - "Last Rites"
Savatage - "Alone You Breathe", "All That I Bleed", and several ballads from Streets: A Rock Opera
Queensryche - "I Will Remember" and "Anybody Listening?"
Dream Theater - "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream"
Rage - "Dust"
Gamma Ray - "The Silence"
Rough Silk - "Far From Home"
Sentenced - "The Rain Comes Falling Down"

Blind Guardian own the metal ballad for me, with songs like The Bard's Song (In the Forest) (possibly the greatest metal sing-along ever), Harvest of Sorrow, A Past and Future Secret, and the acoustic versions of Bright Eyes and Mordred's Song. Rage also write a good ballad when they want to. Favorites by them are All This Time (especially the version with the Lingua Mortis orchestra) and Deep in the Night. Nightwish have some good ones too (Sleeping Sun, Walking in the Air, Forever Yours).

"Walking In the Air" = teh r0x0r. :D It'll always have a special place in my heart after Nightwish's performance at ProgPower USA due to the Marc Brueland connection.

Say, I don't think Superior's softer songs have been mentioned yet... "Be Mine," "This Promise," maybe "Dreamtime," and the acoustic version of "Why?" (with Andre Matos).

I guess Empty Tremor's "Stay" qualifies as a softer (yet not totally acoustic) ballady-type song, too.
